But we’ve read some customer reviews that say this model begins toasting unevenly after a year or two of use (though we haven’t experienced this in our own long-term testing).

One of “Oprah’s favorite things” is a toaster oven/air fryer combo, and I spent many hours reviewing the Cuisinart TOA-60 and its digital counterpart Cuisinart TOA-65. Since they are almost identical, I have reviewed the base model Cuisinart TOA-60 and included a list of differences between TOA-60 and TOA-65 at the end for your convenience. Reading the instruction booklet and the included recipes, preparing food with this was intriguing. Food52, you really need to tell people that if they planned to put it under hanging kitchen cabinets, they should reconsider buying it. It barely fitted under my cabinets and when I read the instructions, I learned that it can start fires if it is too close to them, which it definitely was.
Easy to use– You’ll either be using three dials to air fry, convection bake/broil, or the one for toasting. If you want an effective airfryer toaster oven, you want one that performs well under time pressure. It will take you some experimenting to get the hang of your air fryer, but like I say with cooking anything, keep checking in as you go. As with anything, this device does have downsides, which include a lack of digital controls and a need to hand wash all the parts after use, since they’re not dishwasher safe. It’s also slightly taller than your typical toaster oven, though it will ultimately be a space-saver if you’re using it in lieu of multiple appliances. As plenty of home chefs can attest, that versatility is key to making a great meal.
We liked extra features, such as Breville’s “Lift & Look” button/lever (which allows you to peek at the doneness of your toast and pop it back in if it’s not quite ready) and its “A Bit More” button . But you’ll have to decide whether these extra features are worth the added cost, knowing that these pricier toasters won’t necessarily last longer. But these toasters tend to be more expensive and aren’t necessarily better at actually toasting. They do allow you to see what’s happening inside the toaster without having to peer into it from above, which may be especially useful for, say, people who use wheelchairs. It should produce consistently crisped bread with no white spots or burnt edges.
