Expected complications like a stopwatch and timer are easily available by pressing the appropriate button on the side of the case. There is a good chance when someone mentions digital watches, one of your first thoughts is going to be of a G-Shock. The Casio-owned brand has been around for a few decades and their design aesthetic is recognizable by many. The square-shaped cases are often chunky and rugged-looking, giving wearers a sense of security that bumps baby g shock and scrapes won’t damage their G-Shocks. OK, an entire week with only the popular G-Shock Casioak as a wrist buddy has been refreshing, but what about the dark blue suit / white shirt get-up I’ve got planned for a cocktail party? On Zoom – again, but with the laptop at a distance and the occasional stand-up toast, my choice is clear, making the threesome a glittering foursome (God save me if my wife read this, a week of top models and threesomes…) .
The final of three series is the GA2100HC (aka the “Casio Oak”), which is available in two versions. The GA2100HC-2A, has a clear white bezel, a blue translucent band, and a blue and white dial, and the GA2100HC-4A has an olive green bezel, orange translucent band, with orange accents on the dial. This slim case design also has a Carbon Core Guard structure for enhanced strength and shock resistance. The GA900 comes in two versions with matte resin cases and bezels.

Full-on bling irony that takes all of five minutes to assemble and sure turns out to be a conversation piece. It’s remarkable fun for about $200 AUD a kit and great if you don’t feel like taking yourself too seriously.
That in itself is a neat touch, and it’s these less traditional features that lend this piece fizz. It isn’t a cheap Royal Oak wannabe, it’s unmistakably a G-Shock – and it works as a watch on its own terms. If you were at school in the 1990s, you’ll remember G-Shock-wearing classmates slamming their watches on the ground to prove their indestructibility. g shock protection We have been wearing the CasiOak this past fortnight and it has that same hard-as-nails quality. The hands have luminescence applied to them to help with legibility in the dark, and this is a good thing since it also means you save battery as you won’t have to turn on the light every time you just want to read the time.
The only parts in contrast are the hardware buttons, strap screws and buckle. This sounds good but I’d actually far prefer they were all PVD or DLC black too similar to what I have on my RedOut edition from last year. The first thing you notice about the watch is that g shock watch its dark – real dark! In fact in anything but ideal light you’ve got yourself an expensive rubber bracelet. This isn’t a deal breaker as when there is light, or when you manage to set the LED to display for more than 3 milliseconds, you can kinda tell the time, ish.
