If you’re looking for the best value from the brand, this 12-cup model is the one to choose. In spite of its relatively low price, the Cuisinart DCC-1100BK is attractive and offers the same basic perks as the more expensive models. It’s programmable, so you can set it to have the coffee ready the minute you wake up or walk into the house. Of course,fresh roasted beans ground in a burr style coffee grinder always improve the flavor – so don’t forget that is half of the battle in the quest for an excellent cup. The control panel allows the hotplate warming the glass carafe to be set to low, medium, or high. If you are a “gulper,” you’d want a low or medium setting.
Another key feature of this model is the included charcoal filtration system that removes impurities and chlorine, and helps to keep calcium carbonate buildup (aka “scale”) at a minimum. Unlike many models, the cuisinart pots and pans set Cuisinart DCC-3200 also allows you to easily brew smaller batches simply by pressing the 1-4 button. But remember, most manufacturers measure their capacities according to “old style” or European style cups.
The Cuisinart Thermal Coffeemaker comes with a charcoal water filter that helps to eliminate chlorine, odors, and bad tastes from tap water. Before setting the machine up, we soaked the filter in cold water for 15 minutes, as directed. Next, we inserted it into the filter compartment and flushed it by running cold water through the holes in the compartment for 10 seconds. Lastly, we slid the filter holder into the water reservoir on the coffee maker.
That said, they aren’t necessarily budget coffee makers. You can expect to get a high quality, durable machine for your money. It has a permanent filter built in which always yields better-tasting coffee, in my opinion.
We would often add coffee and water to the machine at night, and set the brew time for the next morning. It was so nice to wake up and have coffee already made. However, one thing we didn’t like about the Cuisinart was the design of the carafe. The thickness of the pot is probably key to keeping coffee hot, cuisinart pots and pans set but the design has a few drawbacks. For starters, the water doesn’t pour out of the spout all that easily—you have to tip the pot really far forward, especially when you’re pouring out the liquid at the very bottom. The Cuisinart DCC-1100BK features a charcoal water filter like the other models on our list.
