Genesis® II Series

We can only imagine the crawling and contorting one must do to hook a full tank of liquid propane in that small cabinet. The entire Spirit II line interfaces with Weber’s iGrill 3 smart thermometer ; this can alert you, through an app downloaded to your phone, when your food has reached certain temperatures. For now, we think a simple probe thermometer, like the ThermoWorks weber genesis 2 Dot, could alert you in a similar way for less cost. The gas tank mounts externally , instead of in a cabinet underneath the grill, as is typical (such as on the previous-generation Spirit). That makes it much easier to install a new tank and unhook an old one, because you’re not scrabbling around a small, dark enclosure to find the hoses and brackets.

The combined heat output from these burners can equal 30,000 BTUs. When you consider the 529 square inches of cooking space between the main area and the warming rack, this is enough heat and space to serve a larger family between 5 and 7 people. This grill is a bit smaller than several of the Genesis grills, but it still has plenty room. You get 450 square inches of cooking space when you account for the warming rack and the main cooking surface. The primary grilling area of the Genesis II E-310 consists of two porcelain-coated, cast-iron grates with a total 513 square inches of grilling space.

Built around SnS Grill’s patented Slow ‘N Sear charcoal kettle accessory, this 22-inch kamado is a premium ceramic grill that brings true 2-zone cooking to a kamado. Napoleon’s 22″ Pro Cart Charcoal Kettle Grill puts a few spins on the familiar kettle design. In fact, the hinged lid with a handle on the front, spins in a rotary motion 180 degrees.

Of all the fuels mentioned here, charcoal emits the most carbon into the atmosphere. Though there’s no debating that, some experts argue that lump charcoal portable bbq is potentially carbon neutral. If you want to read more about comparing grilling fuels, we found helpful articles from The Atlantic, Slate, and NPR.

I appreciate how sturdy and solid the Genesis II feels. Its lid and pair of side tables are built from heavy steel. Both the grill’s cast iron grates and lid are enameled in porcelain too. My only complaint, a minor one, is Weber’s choice to use some plastic in the E-310’s construction. The ends of the grill’s side tables are wrapped in gray plastic bumpers that cheapens its appearance. Still, the lid does have a large built-in thermometer, a Weber standard feature the Char-Broil SmartChef Tru-Infrared lacks.

With this grill, Weber has taken all the features people love about gas grills and ‘premiumized’ them. This brings us to the LX grill with the largest cooking surface, the six-burner Weber Genesis II LX S-640. It costs $2,000 and scores almost as well as the four-burner model above, although its temperature range wasn’t as wide. At 6 feet long, it takes up about as much space as a couch. On the other side of the size spectrum, the new Genesis series features grills with four and six burners for those who like to do some serious grilling.

This is essential if you plan to store your Weber Genesis II outdoors where it is subjected to the elements. If you ever have questions or concerns or need to order a replacement part, you can contact Weber by email or phone. This grill takes around two hours to put together, but if you purchase it preassembled, it’s ready to start grilling within minutes. The Genesis II series is compatible with Weber’s iGrill system, so you can add a Bluetooth thermometer to your grill. Weber Genesis II E-310’s grill plates are wide and deep, allowing you to cook a lot of food at once.
