Instant Vortex Plus XL Review

I feared that it would take up space, not get used nearly often enough, and might not live up to its hype. I put all kitchen appliances through this test and most basket style air fryers don’t pass. Across both versions of the Vortex Air Fryers, there are 6 smart programs.

Fast, versatile, and convenient, make all your favourite finger foods with less oil and no mess. It left us with sizzling rashers that weren’t overcooked, and five minutes was the perfect amount of cooking time. As you’ll see in the full review below, we put the Instant Vortex Plus 6 Quart 6-in 1 Air Fryer to the test cooking fries, chicken strips, bacon, and roast vegetables.

Every function heats before starting, and the machine beeps when it’s up to temperature. Time remaining and cooking temperature are displayed onscreen. Reminders and error messages are also displayed, for example, when chips need shaking. At this point, the machine auto-pauses when you remove the drawer, but auto-starts when it’s replaced. You’re directed to the Instant Pot website for recipes, which is frustrating as sometimes you just want to crack into a new gadget – particularly when it requires such little set-up.

The Dehydrate smart program can be used to make your own jerky, dried fruit leather and chips. By default it starts at 8 hours with a temperature of 130F degrees. You can adjust the time from 1 to 72 hours within 95 to 175F. You can either bake or fry them in the Vortex but either way, they will turn out tender on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside.

For this recipe for air fryer pork chops, we will not be breading the pork chops. Rather, we will be making a rub seasoning mix which we are going to very liberally apply to the meat. We’ll use brown sugar, paprika, ground mustard, onion powder, garlic instant vortex powder, salt and pepper. We mix it together and rub it all in to pork chops that have been rinsed, dried, and coated with a little olive oil. Rinsing the pork chops and patting them dry with a paper towel is important so don’t skip that step.

Many of the reviews I’ve read suggest that you should line the drip tray with aluminum foil to prevent messes and promote quick clean up. At the time of this writing, I do not yet have specific reviews. However, the Vortex Pro is so similar to the Plus, that reviews of that appliance are useful. Basically it is the the same with just a few functions added. I resisted buying yet another “gadget” and then caved in. Every function that I tried, works efficiently.

Having two baskets set at drastically different temperatures placed side-by-side could pose some accuracy issues. We tested this out by setting one basket to 400°F and the other to 200°F. We are pleased to report that neither one affected the other. We also set both baskets to the same temperature and checked for any discrepancies, and again, the Vortex Plus XL proves accurate.
