DJI Phantom 4 Pro Review

The Auto setting does a great job, but tends to expose more for the shadows. Since the shadow detail retains more information in the Phantom 4 RAW files, I preferred to use Manual mode to expose for the highlights, then bring back some shadow detail in Lightroom. I’d definitely recommend purchasing one of these shorter lightning to USB cables, rather than using a regular length one which will be left dangling off the controller. You can use a range of tablets, but I found the Mini to be the best in terms of size/weight.

I loved the ability to see on a Google map exactly where the drone was located. Selecting a section of your video footage using the DJI Go app is simple and fast. I particularly liked the ability within the software to trim your video clip to a more mobile friendly size, ready to email to friends. To be able to pilot your dji drones, you need to install the DJI Go app on your mobile device.

The Phantom 4 Pro adds identical sensors on the rear, preventing it from backing into objects. The DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone adds additional obstacle sensors and a vastly improved camera to the already stellar Phantom 4. Sport Mode – Probably the fastest setting on any camera drone, this allows the quadcopter to reach a maximum speed of 45 mph.

No color corrections, no white balancing, these are just the raw experience using the default settings of the Phantom 4 Pro. The first two images are actual photos taken using the camera mode, the remainder are stills pulled from the video. Back to basics, the Phantom 4 Pro is equipped with obstacle avoidance sensors on four sides and on the bottom. Thanks to this, it is not as pleasant to fly the machine close to the ground, or close to yourself, the remote beeps at you, a lot. The Phantom allows you to shoot video in D-Log mode and H.265 codec for very crisp and professional-looking video footage, easily beating what comes out of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.

It also has Smart Return Home which engages the Obstacle Sensing System during return to home flight. If the aircraft sees an obstacle on its way back, it will intelligently avoid it as it comes home. 9.What are the major improvements in the Phantom 4 propulsion system? The motor on the Phantom 4 is designed to work with the latest Push-and-Release Propellers. With this locking mechanism, propellers can withstand drastic changes of motor speed, allowing the aircraft to be more agile and more responsive to the pilot command. The DJI Phantom 4 Pro V. 2.0 is an absolute joy to operate and a very easy recommendation for drone shoppers.

The drone’s camera has the capability to shoot 4k videos and 12 megapixel photos. According to DJI, they tweaked the camera to shoot 1080p at 120 fps. Casual users may not notice much of a difference, but people who are fond of slow-mo will find this useful. While the Phantom 4 drone can momentarily lift over 1.5 kg, for safety reasons the maximum payload should be less than 800 grams under ideal conditions and recommended not to exceed 500 grams.

The other new parts contributing to quieter operation are new motors. You also have the option to set the maximum flight distance and height, which is useful in all sorts of situations, especially if there are flight restrictions. The dji fly Pro uses a Lightbridge video transmission system. If the control signal is lost, the Phantom 4 Pro V2.0 will retrace its original path to assist it regain its connection after one minute. When it reconnects, it will return following a straight route.

Second, if you are just looking for a fun drone to bounce around the backyard, not really planning to take videos, the Phantom 3 standard at less than half the price of the Phantom 4 is a smart move. Announced and released in August 2018, the two versions of the update to the Mavic Pro have some tricks up their sleeve. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro rocks a 1-inch camera sensor from Hasselblad, this 20MP shooter produces some of the best aerial footage we’ve seen from a drone under $2000. The DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, on the other hand, has the same size camera sensor as the Phantom 4, but the updated 100Mbps data rate and 2x optical zoom should give the Mavic drone the edge. 10.Can I download other apps onto the Phantom 4 Pro + remote controller display?

Make sure the gimbal clamp is removed from the camera, and start the DJI GO 4 app to complete first-time setup and take off. If you need reliably high image quality and accuracy on medium to large-scale survey and mapping projects across industries, go for the WingtraOne. If you are on a tight budget and need an entry-level drone for smaller projects with reasonable resolution and absolute accuracy, the RTK is worth a closer look. If you are new to drones, you can do what many people do and get this entry-level solution as a proof-of-concept for basic project needs. When you need to cover more area with better-quality images, you can switch to a more expensive system. S-Mode is Sport Mode and allows your Phantom 4 to fly at speeds up to 45 miles per hour.

DJI provides QR codes in the quick start guide, both to download the DJI GO 4 app and to watch tutorial videos that they have created. Keep in mind that both the battery and remote controller need to be charged, and while the battery itself takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes, the controller takes a staggering 3 hours and 40 minutes. So go ahead and plug both of these in, and maybe take the opportunity to watch a couple of feature-length movies in the meantime.
