It also includes a lower latch system, and with just one hand, you can secure the booster to the car seat. In addition, it has a fully adjustable headrest and back support, and self-buckling is possible. A booster is a simpler seat that relies on the car’s seat belt to restrain a child.
The price tag on this booster seat is a little steeper than some other options, but since it can also be converted to backless mode, you might be able to justify it. If you want to use the seat as a backless booster, just remove the upper part, place the car seat into the motor vehicle, and expand the room for your children. The seat belt will provide the highest protection, as always. The first one is convenient for a child 40 to 110 lbs as a high back booster seat with the appropriate seat belt guides – shoulder belt and lap belt.
Engineers measure how three-point lap and shoulder belts fit the dummy in each of the tested boosters under four conditions that span the range of safety belt configurations in vehicle models. An overall rating for each booster is then assigned based on the range of scores for the lap and shoulder belt measurements. Seat your growing child comfortably and happily in our backless Turbobooster. You’ll appreciate how it helps protect your child by raising them up to the proper height for the seat belt. The padded, height-adjustable armrests are extra comfortable.
Hi Zoe, We would recommend replacing the car seat even if just one of the criteria are met. It would really be best to contact the manufacturer of the car seat to confirm with them. I think “bruising from seat belts and muscle soreness” counts as an injury.
NHTSA cites several international studies which showed that after minor vehicle crash tests, even when there is visible stress to the child restraint, the restraint still performed well in subsequent crash tests. It’s black fri and no one is answering the phones, I think this is crazy. A door ding should not qualify as a crash that would need a car seat replacement as the car seat did not experience any sort of crash energy that could have damaged it. I can’t give legal advice as I’m not a lawyer or insurance agent. Personally I would ask to talk to a manager or higher at the insurance company to ask under what grounds they feel the seat needs to be replaced and if they could remove that charge. Since your vehicle had to be towed it doesn’t meet all 5 of the NHTSA crash criteria which would mean it’s safest to replace the car seat.
