Packing a big punch, we measured this little fan hitting 13.4 mph. While this will certainly help cool you off when pointed directly at your face, it’s also fairly effective as an air circulator when positioned just right in larger spaces. Instead of a solid base, this lightweight model has five sturdy legs that give it a small but stable footprint.
Be sure to always unplug your fan from the outlet before taking it apart. If you have small children or pets in the home, you’ll need a model with a sturdy base and a wider pole. You don’t want a small base and thin pole, as these are more easily knocked over.
It also includes three speed options, a height adjustment range of 42 to 55 inches, and a tiltable head for directing airflow. This fan is available in white with chrome highlights or green with gold and chrome highlights. Unfortunately, the lights on the base also don’t dim or turn off, and this is one of the loudest, highest-pitched fans of the bunch, making it not a great option for picky sleepers or for use when watching movies. Though, if you’re a fan of white noise and a powerful breeze, you may just love this big unit exactly as it is. Though the Silent Turbo is one of the quieter fans we tested, it also beeps rather loudly every time you change a setting, which isn’t ideal when trying to operate it in a quiet bedroom. A couple of the modes seem very similar to one another, and ours took several seconds to settle into the right speed when we changed a setting.
We also preferred the Vornado’s silver speed dial, which let us adjust settings with one continuous, smooth, quiet motion, to the controls on the other circulators. This Rowenta fan had the sturdiest base and rod of the pedestal fans we tested, a clearly labelled control panel, and easy-to-assemble and maintain metal grilles. The Honeywell tower fan has a small footprint Lasko Box Fan and sleek design, a sturdy base and 8 speed settings, plus it’s quiet and affordable. We researched hundreds of models and brought in 13 highly rated options for testing. Over the course of four steamy summer weeks, we found that all of the fans did a similarly good job of keeping our test space cool but varied widely in features, build quality and usability.
