The trimmer attachment works like a regular beard trimmer. If you can get the 32BT set and the overall price is still decent, I think that would be an even better solution. The actual head is slimmer since there’s no foil frame surrounding the cutting elements and it feels more nimble and also glides easier on the skin. The replacement head is also cheaper and easier to find.
The beard trimmer works fine as long as you don’t try to go too fast. The Braun Series 5 has worldwide voltage adaptation and a convenient travel lock. There’s a Clean&Charge station to hygienically clean, lubricate and dry the shaver with a proprietary alcohol-based solution. Although our testers thought the Series 5’s cleaning cartridge was “kind of a pain to install”, they were pleased with its result.
However, in another shift, 5050Cs come with not one but two attachments. One is your precision trimmer which essentially serves the same purpose as did the pop-up trimmer. The second is body groomer attachment which you can use to cut body hair like on your torso and maybe down under. There are different versions that work in both wet and dry, or just dry, so you can choose what would suit your shaving needs best. Plus the ability to pivot and the retracting foils mean that it is much easier to obtain a closer shave.
When the cleaning indicator lights up in the shaver display, insert the shaver into the C&C, as described above. Using the special cord set , connect the station power socket to an electrical outlet. Next, switch off the shaver, press the release button to remove the Foil Braun Series 5 & Cutter cassette and let it dry. The lock symbol lights up in the display when the shaver has been locked to avoid unintended starting of the motor (e.g. for storing it in a suitcase). To change position, move the shaver head with your thumb and forefinger back or forth.
I’m used to the 5 series shaver and although this is a 5 according to Braun, it’s more like a 5a type. Lastly, it cleans by only tapping the head to shake out the Braun Series 5 cuttings and then brushing the rest away. Only minus is you have to change the head to attach a trimmer blade- it doesn’t pop up as on the 5 series shaver.
