They are one of the most efficient and fastest cleaning systems on the market. Even if you clean the head thoroughly, there are still hair clippings and gel left inside. It is the case for both series, and that’s where automatic cleaning stations come in. While the closeness of the Braun shavers is not class-leading, they are more or less a benchmark of comfort.
But most of the time I’ll be using a Series 7 or 9 when shaving dry or a Panasonic Arc 5 when I have the time for a wet shave. If that’s something you have to deal with, then you should consider it. I did however use several Braun shavers from the same period and to me the current, Braun Series 5 modern Braun shavers are much better, especially with regards to comfort. That includes the Series 5 as well which is a really good shaver. How much of an upgrade will it be in your case is hard to tell. But the Series 5 seems like a suitable choice if you decide to upgrade.

If you already own a previous Series 5, don’t think you’ll get an upgrade with the 5018s. I wouldn’t be too worried about this as we’ve seen this happening with other newly launched Braun models in the past. You should switch the shaver on for a few seconds after that to help distribute the oil evenly across the cutters.
