The Best Oscillating Tool Options For The Workshop

When cutting door or baseboard trim for new flooring, use a piece of scrap flooring as a guide. Lay the scrap piece of flooring on the subfloor and rest the blade flat on its surface. If you keep the blade in contact with this scrap piece as you cut the trim, you’ll end up with a section of perfectly scribed baseboard for your new floor to fit under. Sanding projects that require a power sander can take a lot out of you. The vibrations from a power sander can cause fatigue, and they can wear out a light-duty tool. The Rockwell RK5142K Sonicrafter F50 Oscillating Multi-Tool solves those issues.

It also can zip through softwood quickly and easily at a high speed. Thought the tool was good for used in those hard to reach areas to cut wood & metal. Will dewalt tools continue to replace my Dewalts with better quality tools going forward. I bought this as I wasn’t able to find the blades for the Master Mechanic I have.

You can set up an extension cord and leave the tool plugged in, keeping it available anytime you need it. It just doesn’t cut as quickly as some of the other brands I have used. Don’t get me wrong, it works on everything I need it to do. But I absolutely love the quick change feature and all the blades it came with. It might be one of those tools I have for years and years, but I’m not too hopeful it will hold up that long.

I’d much rather use the DeWalt quick adapter to get the job done quicker, this comes installed already on the tool. DEWALT® oscillating multi-tools are available in both cordless and corded. The oscillating multi-tools offer our Quick-change™ Accessory System that makes it quick and easy to change out accessories, so you can keep moving. Plus, their Dual-Grip™ variable speed trigger delivers the comfort and precision needed to ensure top-notch work. The Makita 18-volt cordless oscillating multi-tool can take on tile, plaster, drywall, wood flooring, PVC and more. The variable-speed control revs up to a smooth 20,000 oscillations-per-minute.

I just want to let people know that this is not a variable speed tool. You may be able to control the speed with some magical power but I have now such thing at my disposal so i consider this a two speed tool, off and on. I sort of think the tool landed in the hands of the marketing dewalt accessories team at DeWalt and they said “hey look, when you pull the trigger a little it goes slower! ” It’s a fact that it’s speed changes depending on how much you pull the trigger but there is no way to control it unless you’re just sitting at a table somewhere holding it.

The QUICK-CHANGE™ Accessory System isn’t really that new as we’ve seen the same system used on the Porter-Cable line. In fact, it was our favorite when we reviewed the Porter-Cable Multi-Tool last year. I really like this system because I can easily squeeze the clamp with one hand while I insert a blade with the other hand.
