Dewalt Dw735x Planer

We were looking to see which planers had enough power to sustain the no-load feed rates throughout the different boards that were planed. There are ways to stretch the life of your planer blades. You can do much of the work with other tools, reserving your planer for the lighter duty finish cuts. The planer can remove a lot of material fast, especially with softwoods, and cut up to 1/8″ per pass, but we rarely remove that much material at a time.

This is where the depth setting dial comes in really handy. The depth setting dial has several incremental depth stops at standard measurements from 1/8th of an inch to 1-1/4 inches. This feature was a major help when we needed to plane several reclaimed oak boards for a desktop down to 1-1/4 thick. If I ever get the shop cleaned dewalt Hand tools out and make enough room I’m going to get a Grizzly 15″ and put a Byrd cutterhead on it. That will be about $1,800.00, but it should be the last planer I ever need and years before I have to spend money on replacement carbide inserts. I have a jointer with a helical head and one of the greatest things is it’s very quiet.

Its blades are also 13 inches wide meaning you cant interchange them with the 12.5-inch blades of the 734 although these particular blades give you 5 more inches of dewalt accessories room to work with. This planer uses 13inch blades which give you room for larger planks of lumber. Its multiple speeds also help smoothen rougher pieces of lumber.

Unless the raised ridges are wider than 1/16”, this small operation usually restores smooth planer performance for a while. You’ve essentially misaligned the nicks in the blades. The nicks used to line up , but they don’t align any more so the ridge disappears. There’s no question that the 13-inch DeWalt 735 benchtop planer is expensive.

Some manufacturers allow you to increase or reduce feed speed, an adjustment that changes how many times the blade strikes the board within every inch. The higher the feed speed, the fewer times the blades will strike, causing a rougher finished result. The lower the speed, the smoother the board will come out. Cutting speed refers to how many times the blades strike the surface of the board per minute. For example, a cutterhead speed of 8,000 on a two-blade cutterhead will produce a cutting speed of 16,000 cuts per minute. These machines rip off and spit out tiny pieces of wood, and the floor under a thickness planer will resemble a child’s sandbox after only a few boards.

I have been taught to cut your boards a little longer than needed. Then trim the ends off to get rid of the snipe on the ends. I’ve had my planer sitting on top of a junk dresser I found in the trash for about a year and a half now.
