After reading several reviews it was clear to me that this was a hidden jewel among the DEWALT product lineup. Below are some of the key spec’s on this tool and my take on this super-charged thickness planer from DEWALT. If it was rough and not very close to flat, when it hits a high spot it’ll bog down and shut off. let it sit for a while, then recheck your panel for that circuit, and then retry the breaker on the planer. On bigger boards going through the 735, you have to take tiny cuts, because the large part of the blade is working and not just a small part. If you slab was 10 or 12 inches wide, you have to accept a thinner cut and a slower cut, the planer is working much harder than normal.
This item is currently out of stock with the manufacturer. They have given us the estimated ship date above for new orders placed today. This date will be updated regularly and we expect continued backlogs for several months on this item and other power tools given current Covid-19 related trends. DEWALT will maintain the tool and replace worn parts caused by normal use, for free, any time during the first year after purchase.
Keep in mind that the higher CPI setting will generate more wear on the blades. It allows you to run the machine without having to install special wiring or outlets. You will not be able to convert the motor to run off of 220 volts. This DeWalt DW735x planer review takes a closer look at this 13-inch planer to see how it might fit your shop needs. DeWalt promises top-notch performance thanks to a three-blade cutting head, two speeds, and quality build materials.
You can adjust the cutterhead speed from 96 CPI to 179 CPI. Shave wood boards to a desired thickness—and minimize the dusty mess—with one of the best benchtop planers. It generates virtually zero snipe whatsoever and in addition, it provides for a sleek finish assuming that your cutting blades are sharp.
Just wondering if I would be paying a premium on the Dewalts because of who they are. Jim – I’ve only seen guys store them in the trailer and carry them and set them on a work table at the job. While these are fairly heavy they are small enough to be pretty portable.
This will enable you to save a lot of money on knife blades in the long run. It’s also very easy to change the knife blades due to a set of pins that have been machined on the cutter head along with matching holes that have been machined through the knife. Before I even ran a piece of wood through this planer I was impressed. Out of the box the unit is very heavy and clearly a heavy duty machine. The DW735 is so easy to setup that even a complete novice to thickness planing can set it up in a mater of minutes. It comes with the blades already installed and all the pre-set stops factory adjusted.

With long heavy planking we have supported the plank in various places and let the planer run itself down the plank.
I like how the removal gauge bar is the full 13″, so no matter where you place the wood, it hits the gauge. You don’t have to worry about placing the wood in the middle to get a reading. There is also a nice chart on the front that shows how much material you can remove depending on the width of your board. The maximum cutting depth is 1/8″ with a depth capacity of 6″ and obviously a width capacity of 13″.
