Dewalt Miter Saw Review
When the positioning is done, you can twist the knob again to lock the base and start working with the miter saw. As you can see it pretty much cuts dewalt Hand tools right through the wood, well all most. No big deal as that is a large capacity and you can turn the board over, but did want to note this cut.
The batteries were plugged in during lunch break to give them an additional 30 minutes of charge time, but I’m not even sure that was needed. The saw has plenty of power for cutting framing materials including engineered lumber, even when running in the cordless mode. What stands out most about this miter saw is how well it performs in both cordless and corded modes. There is no noticeable difference in performance from one mode to the other, and the saw performs just as we’d expect from experience using our other 12″ DEWALT miter saws over the years.
After nearly stripping out the Torx head, I gave up and carefully took a drill to the flathead part of the combo head. Essentially, the DeWalt 20V Max Miter Saw is just a battery-operated version of a compact miter dewalt Hand tools saw. That seems like a pretty obvious statement to make, but DeWalt didn’t go cheap and use a bunch of plastic. Case in point is the cast metal base which gives you a solid, stable platform to work from.
You’ll also want to consider the size of the motor in the miter saw. Often, the corded power saws come with a motor that is 12-amps or 15-amps. If you’re using a cordless miter saw, you’ll likely be using a brushless dewalt accessories motor that uses 20-volts, 60-volts, or 120- volt rechargeable batteries for power. The amount of power in your miter saw is important because it will determine the types of material you can cut through.
We’ve reviewed the top Dewalt saws and compiled the top choices into a shortlist so you can quickly find what you’re looking for. All in all, the best model should be tailored for what the jobs you’re looking at tackling, as well as the use of your miter saw. A feature found in many DeWalt models, the cross-cut positioning system allows for a clearer line of sight, thanks to an LED light which provides an assisted line of sight when cutting.
Our favorite feature is the cutline blade positioning system that DEWALT has been offering for quite some time. We like this system much better than older laser systems because it accurately reflects the width of the blade being used. The miter controls and detents work flawlessly and are easily adjusted if need be. Lastly, the blade guard that DEWALT uses is one of the best in my opinion. It works smoothly and never gets hung up like some of the other guards on the market. The blade to help you get through the projects efficiently and safely.
The aluminum throat plate replaces the plastic throat plate on your miter saw and features replaceable inserts that can be easily swapped out whenever you change blades. The saw features LED lighting and a cut alignment system that casts a laser-like shadow on the work surface, showing users where the blade will come in contact with material. Since it does not require recalibration over time or when changing blades, the alignment system can be more accurate and durable than traditional laser guides, according to Boie. Think about the various types of DIY projects you’re working on that need pure accuracy.
They also have a 10″ brushless dual bevel 54v model available in the UK/Australia, DCS727. I switched brands to Milwaukee, as their 7¹/⁴ was so much better, and I got it for $350 with extra batteries. My Bosch axial slide at 90# stays in the shop, but the little red saw goes everywhere at 25#.

I was a union carpenter for 20 years and left the field to start my own commercial construction company. I have allowed my installers to get any tool they feel they need, but no longer will I authorize any purchase of a dewalt tool! I personally bought a DW705 12″ miter saw, from Home Depot, about 4 or 5 years ago to remodel my house and kitchen. I was surprised to find out that it did not come with a material clamp !
