A touch of the mode button returns them to their proper positions. In normal use, the minute hand leaps forward a precise third of a minute every 20 seconds. The all-new G-Shock GA-2100 series is coming to Japan in August 2019. Like the recent GA-2000, the GA-2100 is a Carbon Core Guard model, but unlike other recent carbon models, it has a retro G-Shock look thanks to its octagonal bezel and traditionally shaped resin bands.

Lastly, we have a digital display presented between about 3 and 6 o’clock. This digital display is integrated discreetly and blends in well with the dial. In addition, the watch has a world timer that allows you to change time zones with just a few button presses. Using the button, you can scroll through the cities and their respective time zones. The GA-2100 sword-shaped minute and hour hands won’t please lumatics, but the lume’s bright enough for one-handed time check in the dark, and it saves battery power. It’s too bad the G-SHOCK GA-2100 didn’t place lume dots near the indices.

It’s similar to wearing an oval watch, like a Patek Philippe Ellipse. Part of this is an illusion – the strap starts tapering almost immediately, making the horizon of the north and south poles of the GA-2100 disappear along with it. Still, that optical effect has a real impact on the wearing experience.

The Jinshu case and bracelet here is unapologetically based around the look of the Royal Oak from Audemars Piguet, which suits the original shape of the GA-2100 very, very well. Still, in obviously increased dimensions somewhat so this does wear more significant on the wrist. Spend any time in the vast world of Casio G-SHOCK, and you will uncover a vast community modifying these watches in all sorts of ways. Coloured screens, dial painting, full custom artwork, you name it, someone has probably done it and some with nothing short of spectacular results!

A small light can be activated that perfectly illuminates the digital display and provides enough light to adequately read the time using the handset. In the standard display, the digital screen shows running seconds, but it can also be set to display the stopwatch, timer, alarms, as well as different time zones. photo by Watchadvice.com.au.The watch has a resin case which is black. In addition to this, Casio has also used carbon fiber for the construction.

Said display is in a sleeker angled window at the 4 o’clock position. Another upgrade the GA-2100 gets is a dual LED system, one that lights up the lumed hands , and a backlight for the digital display window. The new GA-2100 model getand updated octagon form that was also employed for the original DW-5000C. Analog-digital g shock watch timekeeping comes packed into a no-nonsense simple design without sacrificing the G-SHOCK level toughness. High-strength resin material, which is reinforced with carbon fibers, makes it possible to create a case that is a mere 11.8 mm thin, which is the thinnest among G-SHOCK combination models yet.

Overall, it simply looks classier than other analog-digital G-Shock models in the same price range. From an ease of conversion point of view, this is so simple it’s hard to fault it, and it’s great you can swap it back and forth so you can effectively change it to suit your mood for the day. The quality is good, and it certainly gives the GA-2100 a completely different look depending on the dial colour you use as the donor watch.

The GA-2100 is interesting because the dial and case seem to all be part of the same object, as opposed to being distinct elements that make up a complete timepiece. Here is where the Royal Oak comparison actually makes the most sense – that’s a watch whose style is built on a harmony between the angular case and its integrated bracelet. But the so called CasiOak takes it a g shock protection step further, blending not just the dial but it’s associated furniture into the same hunk of red plastic. So what we’re left with in terms of real world use on the dial is a pretty functional two-hander. The sword shaped hour and minute hands are the only components of the GA-2100 that are not red, thanks to some lume that could be stronger, so they stand out quite well.

I’m a dad, so 60-mile rides are not possible, it’s a case of exhausting yourself on mile hard sprint runs to make it back for dinner. Once home, you can click off the strap in one minute if you want to give it a thorough rinse after that sweaty ride. Two years ago I had on a mechanical watch for my season debut on the road and crashed in a roundabout at 30mph. That watch needed a re-casing, but the Casioak can take some punishment and, if too damaged, just pop on another shroud and strap set. As I mentioned previously, the time may be difficult to read at night using the analog hands, but the digital display solves this problem.
