While a lot of digital watches like to boast tons of features, none of those features really matter unless the timepiece’s user interface makes using those tools accessible. Casio is getting better and better about this, and it honestly makes wearing the latest technically interesting G-Shock watches all the more satisfying. Number next in our mention list is the G Shock Mud Master GG-B100-1ADR, a remarkable model available in 4 different color ranges. As the earlier GG model, this too offers you a lot of specifications to take advantage from. Following this, the second mention in our review list is the G-Shock Mud Master GWG A1DR, a more advanced approach to the earlier mentioned model. The Casio Gravity Defier GA1100 is a new approach to the last year’s Gravity Defier GW1100 and it comes with improved accuracy, exciting new functions and a different backpanel. As a conclusion, I consider that this is a G-Shock that has an added feel of refinement due to the design, quality of materials and incredible craftsmanship that Casio proved to be capable of.
The rugged dust and mud-resistant watch, which is designed to survive in the toughest environments, has also been re-configured to come in 1.9mm slimmer than previous versions. Anyone considering the Mudmaster will be aware it’s a large watch and must be comfortable wearing one, but naturally, it will look massive on a smaller wrist. G-Shock watches are made to be worn loose (yes, if you’re doing the strap up tightly, you shouldn’t be) and the GG-B100 is quite top-heavy and often tried to slip over the top of my wrist. The strap is very stiff at first which doesn’t help, but should mold to your wrist over time.
I sincerely prefer the mineral glass over the sapphire crystal because of the way it behaves over time but that’s more of a personal opinion. The stainless steel resin case is of incredibly good quality and trust me it can be reliable for lots of years from the moment you buy it. The band material is a good-feeling resin that Casio pretty much used in all G-Shock with some exception, so nothing new here. As the previous model, the G-Steel also features a „hands out of the way” function which will put the hands in a position that will let you see all of the background indicators.
The new watch has a compass bearing readout to help users pinpoint the right direction and a barometer which is useful for predicting changes in weather. These readings enable the wearer to quickly assess natural conditions. Next and last mention in our review list is the tough Solar series, most suitable to wear under tough environment as the wide dialer and large Arabic numeral hour markers makes readability more accurate and easier. G Shock Mud Master GG A3DR is available in a green band color against a beige colored dial which makes this combination very unique.
Another factor that plays into its poor legibility is that this particular Mudmaster uses a negative display for the digital readout. It’s hard to use any of the functions during the day much less the night. However, while you might think that anything that keeps out water would easily be able to prevent mud ingress as well, the small particles in mud and dust present challenges of their own. These “mud-resistant” watches use a special “filter” behind the buttons and a steel case back covered by a layer of plastic resin. In testing, mud didn’t seem to hurt the watch’s functions at all, but it is hard to completely clean from the many nooks, crannies, and facets of the Mudmaster’s complex case. In addition to offering shock resistance, the watch is constructed for mud resistance and is ready to withstand working amid mud and rubble.
