Casio G

Going back to the dial, legibility is excellent for an analog Casio watch. Casio’s work on contrast as a concept on analog dials is getting better and better each year, and the brand is still producing designs that are visually engaging g shock watch and detailed. I do, however, want to see Casio work with better luminant in the future. They probably don’t put too much stock in it since this and all other G-Shock watches have a bright white LED backlight for the dial.

Yes, the case is a whopping 53.1mm wide and 19.3mm thick, but like just about all G-Shock watches, it’s ergonomically curved and light on the wrist at just 92g. For a price of $350 retail, the Mudmaster GGB100 offers a healthy dose of the G-Shock brand personality and experience, a ton of functionality, and genuinely tough watch you don’t need to worry about. The bluetooth smartphone link, however, makes a lot of sense and genuinely enhances the user experience in several ways.

That is also true given the limited space available for light to enter a subdial photovoltaic cell that would recharge a light-powered watch. The step-counter functionality is the latest sensor to be integrated into a G-Shock watch. While you don’t ever need to use it, those who want their G-Shock to now also serve as a pedometer have a solution in a non-smartwatch.

It’s a muddy and somewhat swampy part of the trail and it hadn’t been made any better by the rain. Nathan sat on a rock while waiting for Rocky to finish up and spotted something nearby. To his delighted surprise, it was the Mudmaster, up to its eyeballs in crud and still ticking away. For most normal watches this story would have ended with a trip to the watchmaker or even to a retailer for a new purchase.

Using carbon for the watch’s core saves weight and adds strength, as it has a tensile strength ten times that of iron and yet weighs far less. The carbon case also allowed Casio designers to develop a new structure of shock-resistant button. Doing so also let them remove button guards from the exterior, which helps streamline the G-SHOCK’s look. In addition, the watch contains a filter that prevents the intrusion of dirt, vastly improving the watch’s performance in muddy environments. The name G-SHOCK has become a byword for independence and pushing the limits. Guided by a “Triple 10” development concept, the design teams sought a watch with 10-meter free-fall endurance, 10-bar water resistance and a 10-year battery life.

He gritted his teeth in one of those uncomfortable smiles and says that technology has caught up to his needs. He added a new watch to the collection to sit next to the old Seiko SNK805 and the Casio G-Shock Mudmaster. One of the new ones with the high-water resistance and all the heart monitors and performance monitors that someone who would ride to try to better themselves would need to pay attention to. As I sat at a table with my friend and his watch in hand, I couldn’t help but fixate on the size of the case. The Mudmaster GG A5 definitely has a wrist presence and dwarfs almost all of the common G-Shocks that I’ve ever seen. His wrist is smaller than mine, probably by an inch, and it looks big on me.

When you press the top right button you get the seconds hand now pointing north for you AND a digital readout in bearing degrees for the direction you are currently facing. You can also change this readout to a NSEW readout rather than a specific bearing. The watch also allows you to drop a virtual pin on a location and then have the watch indicate direction for you to return to that location later. The numbers at 12,3,6 and 9 are easily legible and there is a digital display at the 6 position giving you a digital clock as well as the analogue hands. Just be aware that around 6pm and 6am the digital part is hard to read as the sword hour hand passes over it.

The resin is raised for the bezel in order to keep the screen protected, and both sides have ”bumpers” in order to increase its resistance to shocks, but also keep the crown and triple sensor protected. Casio has constructed the case from a plastic material and on top sits a sapphire crystal. To prevent dirt and water from getting into the case, Casio has used double rubber rings at the crown and pushers.

Naturally, since it is all about performance, it is also packed with a bunch of functions and features. G-SHOCK watches stand out not just with their tough design, but also with their technical refinements. From environmentally friendly solar technology and Bluetooth® through to GPS and radio technology — G-SHOCK always features state-of-the-art technology.
