Three Shades Of Casioak

Another day, another Casioak, and back to the jelly goodness of the GA-2100SKE-7AER. It’s remarkable how these references, while identical, change personality with both context and activity, and what better sports watch than a G-Shock if, like me, you don’t fancy a huge Garmin. I’m a dad, so 60-mile rides are not possible, it’s a case of exhausting yourself on mile hard sprint runs to make it back for dinner. Once home, you can click off the strap in one minute if you want to give it a thorough rinse after that sweaty ride.

I don’t think we’ve seen the last of this model. I have small hands and a relatively narrow 6.5” wrist – not the best place to put a large, chunky watch. And then the G-SHOCK GA-2100 series caught my eye – and fit my wrist. Thanks to its Carbon Core Guard architecture, the GA-2100 is the thinnest analog-digital G-SHOCK’s ever made. Well, it was until sales of the “Casioak” went nuts . Look, I’m not saying you can pair this with “black tie” and come off looking clever.

The ultimate in minimalist design for contemporary lifestyles. A design concept soon inherited by the first analog G-SHOCK model — the AW-500 — released in 1989. This concept was realized with a rock-solid design that looked almost like it was carved out of a single block of resin, removing everything non-essential. A design concept soon inherited by the first analog G-SHOCK model — the AW500 g shock protection — released in 1989. The concept was realized with a rock-solid design that looked almost like it was carved out of a single block of resin, removing everything non-essential. Over the past year or so, I had been looking for a steel mod that I could use for one of my other Classic square G-SHOCK’s, and the array of options is dazzling, from plain polished steel to full-on rainbow finishes!

With its latest rainbow-hued and gold-toned full metal models, G-SHOCK continues to make inroads into the luxury market. It is all about wearing whatever makes you comfortable. The Mini CasiOak’s dimensions are 46.2 x 42.9 x 11.2 millimeters, which bests the GA2100 for the slimmest G-SHOCK currently on the market.

The strap is fit for purpose and it has a quick release, but it isn’t easy to find an alternative aftermarket strap for this model. The only gripe with these is that they kept the buttons silver – this is the only non-stealth aspect of the watch. The module is protected with a carbon fiber-reinforced resin case.

While extremely thin by G-Shock standards, the GA2100 does not sacrifice its ruggedness G-Shock timepieces have been known for – thanks to a thing called Carbon Core Guard. Avid watch collector, photographer and father of too many children. You can often find me building a new Vostok mod or setting up elaborate, dangerous and wholly unnecessary scenarios to get the best picture of my latest wristwear.
