Polo lent an air of legitimacy to American made fragrance releases and reasserted it with its clothing line. A truly American original that put American fragrances on the same par with European colognes and re-defined the barriers of the industry. This is a milestone in men’s perfumery. Probably the most classic and the most masculine of all men’s fragrances. I’m only surprised that according to the pyramid, the pine needle and leather notes are in the mid-section, as I feel as though I get a blast of them instantly. That combination, to my nose, are what this perfume is all about – super-fresh pine modified by a soothing, rich brown leather.

It has amazing projection and lasts all day. This is the gold standard when it comes to masculine smelling men’s fragrances. What I get initially is pine needles and the general smell of being outdoors in the country.

polo ralph lauren men

This is a scent I’ve been wearing since the early 90s. Polo green like old spice, it makes a man smell like a man. Nothing gender neutral or metrosexual about this, it’s out there letting others know this what it means to be manly. It’s old skool in the same category as cerruti 1886, Givenchy gentleman, quorum. The kind of aftershave your dad or grandad still wears. I’m not sure this appeals to a younger generation and you either love it or hate.

Life is too short not to smell this great. My father used to wear this a lot to work. I remember thinking that I hated the smell on him — which amazes me, because today I love it so polo dress shirts much that I want it as part of my permanent collection. Versatile Pine made slightly warmer with light leather at the drydown. First minute or so after spray it smells so fresh.

A very manly scent with hints tobacco, I don’t think this would ever go out of fashion, it was Lauren at his best. It’s also a quite aggressive scent so if someone around you doesn’t like it you’re very likely to annoy people wearing this. It’s not outdated in the sense that an older person (I’m 32) could wear it better. It’s outdated in the sense that it smells like something that belongs to a specific era and that’s really not compatible with the contemporary taste. I can imagine men of my age and even younger wearing this really well back in the 80s, but not now. It’s a very interesting and unique classic scent that’s worth trying just for the sake of your fragrance culture.
