It is definitely a green leather chypre devoid of the awkward “celery note” of Yatagan and with a bit cleaner, more defined and spicier drydown than Aramis . I get mainly artemisia and pine, oakmoss and vetiver, tobacco, rugged old school leather accord , just the right amount of sweetness in the background. Of course, it still has that boozy classic men’s cologne smell that is far from clean by modern standards. At the same time, it has more depth than I would have imagined.

It’s not exact but the dominant notes are there. I love this perfume but i did not buy because of poor longevity , surprisingly I found a matching Attar from my local store and that has crazy longevity . I don’t think anybody will think you smell good.

When I opened the box the smell was resonating from the package, I was very pleased. I sprayed it on lightly and it was close to what I recalled. You can sense this old masterpiece influenced many scents by Amouage, nasomatto and others. Today it is tough to find a fragrance today that will actually last the whole day. There’s nothing that compares to this 80s powerhouse.

You think you could handle the life of a German barbarian in the late fourth and early fifth centuries? Could you really swing a battle axe with one hand? Could you really defend your family from onslaught after endless onslaught of pending chaos and death? Not if you can’t pull off wearing this masculine beast of a fragrance.

I do get the basil and drop of gin in the opening too mind, but overall it’s a leather and pine binge. I would suggest this for the mature man, 40’s and up. You won’t be getting huge compliments, as a matter of fact the opposite. This is a mature man’s scent and should be worn for personal enjoyment.
