When I catch a wiff of this, man it smells so manly. Whenever I get a new green juice scent first thing comes to mind is this Polo green. Considering the overall profile of this scent, I’d recommend it for formal or semi formal occasions, day and night, spring, fall and winter. But, I have difficulties getting over the “green swamp opening” and that’s the reason I can only give it a “like” instead of a “love”. Now if you do some research, there are Warner, Cosmair, and Luxury Products versions of Polo. The Warner is the original formulation with the best longevity and performance. The Cosmair is the more balanced scent version of the 3 formulations. The Luxury Products reformulation is the current formulation being sold today, needless to say it is the inferior of the 3.
It smells like the leather jacket of a man who chain smokes cigars, rides his horse through the woods to his house where he cooks middle eastern cuisine over an open fire. And it lasts ALL DAY LONG. If it were toned down a little, and mixed with a little more of the floral, I’d probably really enjoy it. Polo lent an air of legitimacy to American made fragrance releases and reasserted it with its clothing line. A truly American original that put American fragrances on the same par with European colognes and re-defined the barriers of the industry. The original Polo has been my father’s signature and preferred scent since its original launch when he was a teenager! Since I was a small child I loved the smell because it IS my daddy.
It has amazing projection and lasts all day. I first smelled this on my friend who wore a Chaps Ralph Lauren brown leather jacket. It is burned in my memory as having a relation to leather, yet the green notes of pine seem to dominate this wonderful scent. I will always have Polo in my collection, even if I decided to shrink it down to only 10 fragrances.
Been wearing this fragrance for 20 years now and will always have a bottle in my collection. Absolute classic real mans fragrance strong and masculine love it. I keep it because I love the bottle and the memories, but I wouldn’t (and couldn’t) wear it anymore.
It has impacted Polo’s wearability in 2019, and you don’t smell it as much as you used to. Supposedly, it’s been reformulated to reflect this and I’ve read that a lot of men prefer the vintage Cosmair formula to today’s version. But where Polo shines is in longevity and projection. It lasts Polo Ralph Lauren t shirt 4-6 hours on my skin with 2-3 sprays, and 8-10 hours with 5-6 sprays. Projection is at least arms length throughout.It even has lasted 2 days on fabric. Putting on my quarter zip sweatshirt 2 days after I had taken it off I was immensely surprised to smell the PERFECT dry down of Polo.
This is the gold standard when it comes to masculine smelling men’s fragrances. What I get initially is pine needles and the general smell of being outdoors in the country. When it dries down I detect notes of ashy-smoke and leather, with ralph lauren t shirt the pine needles becoming part of the background. The top and middle have a somewhat dry chypre vibe. It’s a bit dirty at this point but that’s part of its appeal and what gives it character. It’s simultaneously rugged and classy.
