But it suits an older man best I think, so not quite for me yet. I have always perceived my grandpa as very classy. This is deffo not an everyday perfume. To me it’s a special occasional one. You wear it if you want to celebrate something.
The drydown is dark – heavy leather with woods and tobacco but still with pine note infused. The opening is quite harsh and reminds me of Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. I get mainly a synthetic pine note that seems to become more natural smelling as the fragrance evolves. While Paco Rabanne Pour Homme turns sweet and musky, Polo stays more green, mossy and earthy, more outdoorsy and crisp. I definitely get some caraway or cumin, and tobacco . But there is also just a hint of sweetness in the background that binds together the green, earthy and spicy notes.
I hope, for the sake of this legend, that it is better than what has been offered for the previous few years. Not if you can’t pull off wearing this masculine beast of a fragrance. Macho scent but also classy, in the same category as Aramis in that sense. Will be appreciated by people with classic tastes. it is very classy , slightly offensive but it makes you feel that you are very rich because of the tobacco notes. I like it soo much .It is one of the top 5 of more than 200+ perfumes I have smelled.

Despite the reformulations through the years and new Polo flankers he insists on his green bottle that to him represents the ultimate man’s man, the ideal gentleman in every sense of the word. Some say that it was a fragrance of its time, and is hard to wear nowadays. It is a powerful antidote to watery, fresh scents; wholly masculine with a unique register of notes.

But that being said, Polo is a classic. Hopefully, it will stay around for a long, long time. Workplaces and society in general are less tolerant of fragrances than they used to be. It has impacted Polo’s wearability in 2019, and you don’t smell it as much as you used to. Supposedly, it’s been reformulated to reflect this and I’ve read that a lot of men prefer the vintage Cosmair formula to today’s version.
