this stuff is much more powerful and smells more natural than the present day Polo. A very manly scent with hints tobacco, I don’t think this would ever go out of fashion, it was Lauren at his best. I love this perfume but i did not buy because of poor longevity , surprisingly I found a matching Attar from my local store and that has crazy longevity . It has a great longevity and good sillage. I don’t know why i was not interested in that perfume. I don’t think anybody will think you smell good.
Pine, wood, musk, tobacco, leather, but almost immediately settles into a “dirty talc and spice” feel. It is green with the smell of fallen leaves in Jungle. My Vintage bottle arrived today, what a fantastic scent, so happy I found it. This is for those who may want a wearable version of the original, but mostly for those who seek the nostalgia and memories associated with the scent. I can’t compare it to the original as I’m only thirty, I get mixed reviews from people but me and my Mrs love it.
But those who grew tired of its ubiquitous presence 3 decades ago, should reassess Polo, having had enough time elapse to heal those wounds that result from our reactions to something all too familiar. (This can also be said for many popular “men’s powerhouse fragrances” from the late ralph lauren t shirt 70’s and 80’s). I have re-acquired many fragrances in the last 18 months that I once wore back in the 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s, but let a couple of decades elapse before replenishing stock and wearing them again. Picked up a decant of this from Perfume.com, and have worn it 3-4 times.
I suppose Polo is a true classic as it doesn’t smell dated or out of place to me compared to others that were released around ralph lauren t shirt this time. It’s a bold, very masculine scent. It’s in the same vein as Quorum but comes off more classy and refined to me.
Performance wise it is a beast for me. I find that applying some Vaseline on the area and then spraying helps longevity as well (good for your skin, too!). I will, however, note that this isn’t a safe blind buy. It is a scent that will fit the person and by that I mean it has an aura people are either extremely fond of, or shy away from. I say this because I wear this daily and a friend wanted it after smelling it on me. Once he purchased his own and started to use it, he just didn’t like it as much.
