For me, this is an easy fragrance to love. It’s deep green and herbal, a kind of spicy chypre. It smells like nature, very much like a forest (I’m not sure if the intention here was to evoke a polo playing field or meadow). This is the kind of fragrance that they don’t make now (unless it’s niche).
Pine, wood, musk, tobacco, leather, but almost immediately settles into a “dirty talc and spice” feel. It is green with the smell of fallen leaves in Jungle. My Vintage bottle arrived today, what a fantastic scent, so happy I found it. This is for those who may want a wearable version of the original, but mostly for those who seek the nostalgia and memories associated with the scent. I can’t compare it to the original as I’m only thirty, I get mixed reviews from people but me and my Mrs love it.
It lasts 4-6 hours on my skin with 2-3 sprays, and 8-10 hours with 5-6 sprays. Projection is at least arms length throughout. It even has lasted 2 days on fabric. Putting on my quarter zip sweatshirt 2 days after I had taken it off I was immensely surprised to smell the PERFECT dry down of Polo. If there was 1 scent that I would want to smell like, regardless of day, time, season or circumstance, it would be this one. ultra-hyper masculinity in a bottle. The handsome, fit, complete and versatile man.

One spritz of this to the neck/chest lasts for a very long time. Fall and Winter only for this bad boy, and days vs. nights. The best scent I have ever smelled. It’s my signature scent and I have almost 40 fragrances so I have tried a lot. Still, it’s not a blind buy because the smell is so distinct. It’s very green, very woody, and there’s a heaping helping of leather and tobacco hanging out very presently to support those green notes.
It’s outdated in the sense that it smells like something that belongs to a specific era and that’s really not compatible with the contemporary taste. I can imagine men of my age and even younger wearing this really well back in the 80s, but not now. It’s a very interesting and unique classic scent that’s worth trying just for the sake of your fragrance culture. Growing up in a catholic country, when I was a kid, some groups would have religious figures going house to house for pray-overs. One I remember was of the Virgin Mary. They give out some green cotton doused with minty green oil, and this reminds me of that.
I wore it uninterrupted throughout my twenties. It now evokes so many memories when I wear it now I just sink into nostalgia. Woody, green, but floral at the same time. It polo dress shirts starts bright, leaving trails of grass and moss, before drying into leather and Patchouli, which for me is its dominant note. It has amazing projection and lasts all day.
It’s not sweet at all, which makes it stand out from a lot of modern colognes & what draws comments. It has impressive silliage and longevity. My skin absorbs most colognes pretty quickly but this one will last me 8+ hours. All you need is the ’78 Firebird ralph lauren t shirt and to unbutton your shirt revealing a hairy chest to complete the picture. I will most likely give an update in the future, maybe on 6 months when I’ve got a more solid opinion, but I have a feeling I’m only going to like this fragrance more.
