Initially it’s a blast of pine, but that passes quickly, and then it’s straight up tobacco (to my nose, the wife says “pine”). I didn’t care for it at first, but with each successive wear, it’s wearing me down. I now find it intriguing and want to get to know it better.
I wore it uninterrupted throughout my twenties. It now evokes so many memories when I wear it now I just sink into nostalgia. Woody, green, but floral at the same time. It starts bright, leaving trails of grass and moss, before drying into leather and Patchouli, which for me is its dominant note. It has amazing projection and lasts all day.
Longevity is weak to moderate and sillage good for an hour. Then it becomes a very nice skinscent w/ soft projection. Need to reapply 4-5 times through the day. It’s also a quite aggressive polo dress shirts scent so if someone around you doesn’t like it you’re very likely to annoy people wearing this. It’s not outdated in the sense that an older person (I’m 32) could wear it better.
I hope, for the sake of this legend, that it is better than what has been offered for the previous few years. Yes it is potent, but that is the point. The virility expressed through potency in this cologne is matched by the uber masculine green-oakmoss accord. I really don’t know about the reformulation.
I recently read about this perfume and was astonished that it was created in 1978. And that it is called an old man’s perfume. I’ve been wearing this since the time I was 24 and fit right in. I think it is extremely masculine scent. It can be worn by anyone who can carry off the masculine feel.
Bought a travel spray out of a gift set. Right after a shower it’s on point. I think this is what Quorum wants to smell like but is harsher. Distinct scent for a discerning man. My parents just celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary this week and of course he wore Polo when he took mom out to dinner in his best tweed suit.
I’m not sure what the perfumer originally intended to evoke with this scent but in the light of typical colognes these days I smell a pipe smoking hairy lumberjack. Not a pansy rich polo player with palm olive hands. Kinda makes me wish I was in high school in the early 80s when this was a normal everyday scent. Today’s version of Polo Green only lasts about 2 hours on me and then it’s a skin scent. The OG lasted for 12 or more hours and it still projected and had great silage through the day.
Current formulation is absolutely wonderful. Pine & oakmoss wrapped in ambery-balsamic green leather. Smells very natural, therefore much better than previous reformulations. I recently picked up a Cosmair ralph lauren t shirt version off of Ebay with only 10 percent remaining in the bottle – totally worth it. One spray – no kidding – was like 10 sprays of the weak 4-cylinder version. Neutered is not too strong of a word.
