Ralph Lauren Perfume

Nobody should be without this one in their arsenal, as it simply has first rate longevity and character. One of the five most important colognes of the 20th century. Smells green all day long – if you would like something more cleaner and less daring then floris 1962 is an option. A true Masterpiece of art in fragrance. All others should bow down before the great green Polo god. Lasts 4 to 5 hours on me, and radiates around 5 feet away.

Everyone needs a few anchor-points back to their young and carefree days, and funnily enough, Polo Green has become one of mine from a memory I will always look back on with a smile. My poor ERG forever stunk of Polo Green after that, the smell literally never vanished! Back in the day this stuff was a whole forest crushed and compressed into liquid form and then crammed into a bottle! Whatever formulation I had in mid 90’s sure smelled nice, news didn’t travel fast and nobody paged me to let me know that the original is no more.

It still lasts well and seems more versatile now to me. A class in a bottle, stands on its own and is a trendsetter – a one and only green and leather chypre with a huge load of tobacco. This is ralph lauren t shirt the worst fragrance I’ve ever smelled. I’m not sure what went wrong – but I don’t believe people actually wear whatever I smelled. Smells like being bashed around the head with a pine branch.

I first smelled this on my friend who wore a Chaps Ralph Lauren brown leather jacket. It is burned in my memory as having a relation to leather, yet the green notes of pine seem to dominate this wonderful scent. You need to be an old school manly man to wear this. I actually find the smell offensive, and I don’t like it, which is exactly the desired effect I think.

Perhaps this sort of thing made a lasting impression on me as a kid – Brut and soap-on-a-rope for Xmas, I don’t know. But I’m learning that the woodsy/green/leathers with earthy patch/vetiver/oakmoss drydowns are usually winners for me. The tobacco note in Polo, as elsewhere, only serves to make me love this more. Got a 237ml bottle of this as Xmas present to myself – ‘cos I is werf it. I never wore this on a regular basis in the past but I believe the recently purchased bottle I have, though true to what I remember, has the overall heft and base notes dialed back.
