The Dragon Ball Z logo is engraved on the stainless steel case back, and the watch comes in exclusive co-branded packaging. The G-Shock shock resistant watch is a line of watches manufactured by the Japanese electronics company Casio, designed to resist mechanical stress, shock and vibration. The watches in the G-Shock line are designed primarily for sports, military and outdoors-oriented activities; nearly all G-Shocks are chronographs, with either a g shock watch digital display or a combination of analogue and digital. Other features such as countdown timer, world clock, alarms, electroluminescent backlight and water resistance are included in most models. Newer high-end models in the line also feature GPS, compass or radio-controlled adjustment known as Multi-Band. Similar to the Goku piece, the Luffy watch pays homage to the character with a black base and illustrations throughout the dial and wristband.
Since then, G-Shock watches have become very popular with Special Forces groups in both American and other NATO nation units, due to being “battle tested”. The strap of the watch is also designed to protect the module during a fall. The G-Shock was conceptualised in 1981 by Casio engineer Kikuo Ibe when he accidentally dropped and broke a pocket watch given to him by his father. The G-Shock was conceived as a watch which would have “triple 10” resistance, meaning it would have a battery life of 10 years, have a water resistance of 10 bar and could survive a fall of 10 metres. When the hour and minute hands land on 2 and 4 o’clock, respectively, they form a X-shaped with the gold line on the dial. The X-shaped here is, of course, a nod to the scar on the protagonist’s chest. I leaning towards the white and maroon against black design than the DBZ.
They’ve always looked a bit garish to me with their overly textured dials and perforated hands. But back in February, Casio Japan revealed that the GA-110 is the best-selling G-SHOCK of all time worldwide (in Japan it is 3rd, after the DW-6900 and DW-5600). It is their bread & butter watch that funds the mid-range and higher-end lines we all love like the Rangeman, Mudmaster and Frogman, so who am I to look down on it?

The GA110JOP-1A4 model timepiece, which is based on the digital-analog GA-110 series of watches, depicts One Piece protagonist Luffy. The watch will go on sale at select G-Shock baby g shock retailers on July 22, and orders are limited to one per household. At 3 o’clock, there’s a “Wanted” motif and at 9 o’clock is a motif of Luffy’s signature straw hat.
