Casio G Shock Watches
There’s something about looking at a whole watch dial that offers a broader perspective on time, and this is certainly part of the allure here. The surfing features are nice, but ultimately a novelty for most. For the first time, Casio used a carbon and resin shell-like structure, called a monocoque, for the watch’s case. As a result, the bezel doesn’t have features like the metal parts protecting the operating buttons that were on previous models. Since 1983, G-SHOCK has been setting the standard in toughness.
Even considering its features, the watch is expensive and is mostly used by die-hard G-Shock fans. While it’s a big watch the 14.1mm thickness is very slim for a watch of this caliber, which indicates that Casio designed it for office as well as outdoors. As the name implies, the G9000 Mudman comes in mud- and dust-resistant case with a resin-covered case back and protected buttons. The construction makes it impermeable to mud but also makes the buttons harder to press than on other models.
The front backlight button adds extra accessibility for use in the darkness. As you can see from the image, the design has remained unchanged from the 90s. The blue line in the middle of the display is a visual second counter, giving the watch a military look. DW-9052 is often seen worn by military personnel around the world, so maybe the tactical display has something to do with that. The watch can be set to beep, or vibrate, but not both at the same time. If you’ve gotten enough sleep, you can count on the vibration to wake you up in the morning.
Also, the Hotei sold out in pre-sale, and will likely be up for sale on the nerd-forums for multiples of the original price. In terms of aesthetics and design, the big news here is the display. Watches in the GBX100 series use a new high resolution Memory in Pixel LCD display. The display is sharper, higher contrast, and more detailed than a standard G-Shock display. The idea is that surfers and athletes should be able to see all the information they need at a glance on the new G-LIDE, using a combination of text and symbols rendered in high resolution. Casio also is focused on strengthening its marketing in Southeast Asia, India and China.
Since then, the Bluetooth technology has been incorporated in many top-of-the-line models. The DW models are standard battery powered G-Shocks while GW models of the G-Shock come with either Tough Solar or Multi-Band atomic timekeeping or both. The GSW-H1000 comes with many of the features expected on a fitness-focused smartwatch. There’s an optical heart rate sensor, and Casio’s built-in software supports 15 activities and 24 indoor workout options. The watch supports GPS and has a built-in compass, altitude sensor, accelerometer, and gyrometer. Wear OS means there’s Google Assistant and Google Fit support, and you can download apps from Google Play.

The more features you want from your G-Shock, the higher the cost. Still, regardless of which one you choose, most G-Shocks are always more functional than most mechanical watches out there. It’s more or less meant for large people, who want extra durability for their watches in the case of extra shocks and vibrations. Casio does this well enough to an extent that the GX-56BB is regarded as one of the toughest watches in the G-Shock collection.
