For this particular model, Casio has removed some of the many functions found on the G-shock in order to make it more simplistic. But still, it retains its original rugged look and durable performance. Colorways-wise, when launched, Casio offered the G-SHOCK GA A , the GA A1 (the “stealth” version with black with gray hands and black indices) and the GA2100 4A . Historically, Casio has indulged in the frequent introduction of new G-Shock models.
Tastes will obviously differ, but there’s something fun and vibrant about the red that doesn’t come through in the black. The blackout GA A1 is still sold out everywhere, but more stock is expected in the coming months, and we will make a new post when it is available. Some of these models may be more readily available in some countries in regions like Southeast Asia, but beware of fakes at unauthorized shops and online. Also, there are some online scams involving the GA A1 and other popular G-Shock models, where some e-commerce websites end up shipping a completely different model. Stick with reputable authorized retailers and avoid unknown stores. Thanks to its extremely high level of durability, resin is the ideal material for watches.
Still, that optical effect has a real impact on the wearing experience. The shapes along the way play with whatever light managed to enter the watch and again just looks amazing. The full watch and strap is matt black or dark grey depending on the light hitting it. The only parts in contrast are the hardware buttons, strap screws and buckle.
What perhaps doesn’t come as a surprise is that this watch is extremely light, weighing a mere 51 grams/1.8 ounces including the strap. This makes it one of the lightest G-Shocks on the market today. The watch carries all the features that have made the G-shock so popular but is presented in a fresh and modern design.
It’s a G-Shock that’s purely about its own aesthetic appeal. I really love it if it have the seconds hand on the Analog portion of the watch . While the GA-2100 has more of the original G-Shock DNA in its style than some other recent models like the GA-2000, it is also a subdued style that has a mainstream appeal. Fans will easily recognize it as a G-Shock, but at the same time, it doesn’t scream “G-Shock” to others.
When you have a fully digital watch, you don’t have to think too much about legibility, but since this is also digital, it is quite important. But the good news is that the GA A is actually quite legible thanks to the contrast the hands and indices provide against the black background. When it comes to durable watches packed with cool style, Casio’s G-SHOCK sets the benchmark – and this GA-2100 version shows exactly why. It’s made using the label’s Core Guard technology – meaning it provides superior shock resistance through use of carbon fibre – and comes with the black octagonal bezel for the retro look.
Blacked out with darkened lumes, inverted LCD, and that octagon bezel, it just looked stunningly beautiful. The new GA-2100, also known as CasiOak due to the case’s that resembles an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, breaks away from the square-shaped case. While the G-Shocks have been analog before, the GA-2100 presents the handset front and center, consistently overtaking the digital display and giving the watch a familiarity that mechanical watch collectors will love. The G-Shock GA-2100 case and bezel comes with Casio’s own blend of resin and carbon fiber.
Based on my own experience and the reactions of others, the reasons are very simple. The basic design combines a slim case with an octagon double- molded bezel, decked out in a dark navy blue.
I chose the white-on-black 1A – it’s more legible than the gray-on-black 1A1 and I’m not flashy enough to rock a fire engine red watch. High-strength resin material, which is reinforced with carbon fibers, makes it possible to create a case that is a mere 11.8 mm thin, which is the thinnest among G-SHOCK combination models. Dubbed the ‘Casioak’ due to its octagonal similarities to a Royal Oak, it looks like something Batman would have on his wrist. And he wouldn’t be worried about damaging it while fighting crime, as it’s as rugged as any Casio G-Shock in their stable. Rich blacks, lots of dial detail and an ana-digi display make this a joy to look at. But this joy is only achievable in lower light situations to those who have a good level of eyesight, or possibly their own set of night vision goggles like the Dark Knight himself.
The twelve indices around the dial’s perimeter are in a slightly lighter shade than the dial’s base, and they’re raised, giving the dial a bit of depth and lending an extra touch of legibility. Also critical to the enjoyment of the case is a relatively new technology now making its way into G-Shocks of all kinds, the Carbon Core Guard. Basically, this is a thin layer of strong and light carbon fiber that reinforces the traditional resin case. The result is that G-Shock can build a case with a thinner layer of plastic material while still offering the same protection G-Shock is known for. If this case making technique is allowed to expand and trickle into other G-Shock lines the possibilities are nearly endless. This watch can be had for $100 from a certain large online retailer.
