I snagged this Ryzen processor for $169 and it is about 40% faster than my old Intel while consuming the same energy. The first time i took this CPU out of my motherboard, the thermal paste had adhered it to the cooler. This cause the CPU to rip right out of the socket as I was attempting to take off the cooler and 3-4 of the pins bent and it would not go back in the socket. Luckily, I was able to bend the pins back with a small screwdriver and very gentle force. At this micro-ATX form factor, ASRock manages to fit dual M.2 slots with 32Gbps data transfer rates.
AMD has been weak in Adobe applications, so the IPC and clock increase help here. Intel’s stock 9600K and its 5.6-minute result sits closer to the R at 4.2GHz. Overclocking the Intel CPU to 5.1GHz, it ends up about tied with the 3600. The R finishes in about the same time as the 3.9GHz 1700 from a few years ago, basically a 1700X, gtx 1080 8gb for reference, and not far behind the i7-9700K. Intel’s i9-9900K is still the leader in the non-HEDT space for Adobe Premiere. If your job involves making videos, especially with similar settings to what you’d find in our own, you’re probably still going to want to use the 9900K or similar for a cheaper professional solution.
