Personally I think preventing tear out has more to do with the sharpness of the knives and how deep each pass through the planer is. I would definitely recommend this planer to anyone serious about their wood. Portable thickness planers have to squeeze a lot of power into a small footprint that can be reasonably moved around a shop or to a job site. I bought my joiner its a 8″ PJ-882HH which is a phenomenal piece of equipment.

With the DW734, you can only plane at a single speed of 96 CPI. It’s a really smooth finish as well, and I’m sure any woodworker can do well with it.
Just above the feed opening is a gauge that shows how much wood is being removed. The DW735 is more obviously geared towards the more serious wood workers. This is why they don’t include the infeed and outfeed tables in the package.
This finishing speed is nearly twice as slow, and gives much nicer planing results. It also helps with dealing with difficult, reversing grains and figured woods. If you are able to resharpen dewalt accessories them yourselves , you can save on costs of purchasing replacement blades. You can also pick your preferred angle for the blades, and even add a micro bevel, which may improve the cut quality.
The DeWalt DW735 is fairly easy to use and is pretty well self-explanatory for anyone that uses a planer. The real tests for this machine are the power and accuracy. Power is one of our main concerns with a new planer considering the number of times we trip the breaker on our old model either from overloading the motor or thermal shutdown.
