Without edge cleaning, there’s always a little strip of floor along the walls, cabinets, or appliances that doesn’t get properly cleaned. If you don’t have pets or messy housemates, that may not be an issue, but the edges of the room are often where pet hair and random kitchen debris (in my house it’s usually wayward kosher salt crystals) accumulate the most. In fact, it had the exact same score on the deep clean test as all the other Shark cordless vacuums previously tested, which is a 92. At the time that also happened to be the average score for all the cordless vacuums tested up to that point.
But its non-replaceable battery and one-year warranty are disappointing. If we had to pin down a home that it’s best for, we’d say one dyson robot vacuum with mainly hard flooring. That doesn’t mean the Stratos isn’t good on carpet, because it is, but it really shines on hard floors.
The Shark Stratos is a new line of vacuum cleaners from one of the best cordless vacuum cleaner brands there is. We reviewed the cordless model, but the new tech is also available as a corded and upright vacuum cleaner. The Tineco Pure One S11 was our previous top pick, and we still think it’s a decent stick vacuum. We also tested the new Tineco Pure One S15 Pet and the Tineco Pure One Air, its lighter, less powerful cousin, but both models allowed heavier debris to drop back out when we shut them off.
And even the fanciest models get tangled or trapped, and miss piles of dirt. The vacuum cleaner performed better at sucking up fine dust, but when we tried to pick up large debris it did take a few sweeps back and forth to scoop up all of the mess. The Shark WandVac is loud in use and the runtime is around a quarter of that offered by rival cordless cleaners.
It enables two of the vacuum’s convenience features, cleaning under furniture and storage. The patented DuoClean technology allows the Stratos Cordless to achieve a high seal on hard flooring surfaces. That seal translates into the ability to extract dirt that is deep in crevices while also excelling at picking up fine dust and debris on the surface of tile, wood, laminate, and other hard floors. The Shark Stratos also makes short work of vacuuming up larger debris on hard flooring and carpets too.
Our reviewer was impressed by its ability to sense how much dirt is on a floor and increase the suction power, the battery-life, ease of storing and the Anti- Odor technology which made the home smell so fresh. If you’ve got furry friends, you’ll be pleased to know that there are plenty of models designed to suck up pet hair from your floors as well as your soft furnishings. Cordless vacuums are designed to be on hand whenever you need them, but how often you should vacuum will depend on how many people and pets are in your house as well as how much you’re at home. It’s not perfect as the battery life is relatively short at 40 minutes of use and it only works on hardwood flooring, not to mention its small water capacity and high price. Plus, it propels itself during use so we had to put little effort into pushing 21.5 lb vacuum around when testing it. We found that the full power setting was on a par with our resident corded vacuum, and on the lowest speed setting worked brilliantly on hard floors.
As we noted when testing the Stratos upright, we’re not completely sold on the Odor Neutralizer technology, but the more we think about it, we can’t identify a reason not to use it either. Below we touch upon the ones that Shark calls the most attention to and that we find to warrant credit for the Stratos Cordless’ admirable performance. At 1.9-liters it can hold 150% more debris than the Dyson V15 Detect Absolute (above), and the wider-than-usual cleaning head, means you’ll be able to vacuum your floors quicker than ever too. When testing, we also didn’t like its weight or floor-drying mode that didn’t seem to actually do what it’s supposed to. However, we found the Dyad Pro easy to use and easy to clean, leaving our floors spotless bissell crosswave cordless even if we have to wait a little bit for them to dry. We also appreciated its decent battery life, though you probably won’t be able to cover a large space on a single charge. Yes, the iRobot Roomba Combo J7 Plus is very expensive, especially since it comes with a self-emptying base station and mopping ability. But, those additions are also part of what makes this high-end model from iRobot so great.
Expect somewhere around twenty to thirty minutes of run time on a full charge in this mode. The perfect score that the Stratos Cordless achieved wasn’t a one-off either. We tested the Stratos several times in a row, and dyson robot vacuum it repeatedly scored perfectly. A single pass picked up a lot of the debris, and before the test was over the carpet was completely clean. Welcome to Vacuum Wars and our review of the new Shark Stratos cordless vacuum.
The vacuum also has up to 40 minutes of run-time in standard mode, and it’s anti-allergenic thanks to a HEPA filter that traps dust and allergens inside the cleaner. While this may seem like a lot, vacuuming this regularly will ensure there is less dust to suck up each time, making cleaning your floors a quicker process. We recommend vacuuming most floors once a week while increasing this to twice a week in high-traffic areas such as hallways and doorways.
