Should I Buy An Amd Ryzen 5 3600 Processor?

On most laptops, the screen and the battery capacity will have at least as much influence on battery life as the processor does. In this case, we had two nearly identical systems, but many shoppers will be deciding from among radically different configurations of the same laptop or different models altogether. Some AMD-powered laptops that we tested in the past had heat issues, but thankfully, the Envy x360 with Ryzen 5 stayed cool throughout our tests. After the machine streamed a video for 15 minutes, the touchpad measured 73 degrees Fahrenheit, the keyboard hit 77.5 degrees, and the underside rose to only 88 degrees Fahrenheit. All of those marks were well below our 95-degree comfort threshold. The Ryzen 5 chip was also three times as fast as the Core i5 processor when we played the more-intensive Rise of the Tomb Raider game, providing 15 fps to the Intel chip’s 5.7 fps.

The AMD Ryzen U with six cores / twelve threads within a Lenovo laptop at $449 USD is quite a steal. This is also my first time benchmarking the AMD Ryzen U after waiting months on Ryzen 5000 series laptop availability. Here are some initial benchmarks of the Ryzen U under Ubuntu 21.04 Linux against various other Intel/AMD laptops.

As before, AMD only guarantees its boost frequencies on a single core, and all-core boosts will vary based on the cooling solution, power delivery, and motherboard BIOS. The Ryzen X is the only Ryzen 5000 chip that comes with a bundled cooler, and we found that the Wraith Spire delivers enough thermal headroom for most workloads, but you’ll get a boost from better cooling in heavily-threaded workloads. You also shouldn’t expect any meaningful overclocking headroom with the Wraith Spire cooler. AMD increased the boost clock speeds, but it also reduced base frequencies compared to the previous-gen processors. AMD says that if you top the chip with an adequate cooler, it will rarely drop to the base frequency. We recorded many cases of a 4.55 GHz all-core boost with the Ryzen X, which certainly wasn’t possible with the previous-gen chips.

All in all, you have to choose the right CPU depending on your own usage, not based on benchmarks or what other people recommend. Precision Boost Overdrive works with your motherboard to boost clock gtx 1090 speeds and lets you overclock with a single click. Just to make this crystal clear, the reason they HAVE to use older games is because all of the PAST data has been run using those games.

In comparison the 3600X is the same processor and almost in a dead heat when bench marked. It was a shame to see all the recommended graphics cards out of stock due to miners buying all of them. I already had one RX 570 8GB OC so I opted to go with the RX 580 for both of my new Ryzens.

The Gigabyte X99-Designare EX motherboard hosting our Core i7-6800K is notorious for high power consumption at idle thanks to its PLX PCI Express multiplexer, so it should be considered an outlier. Euler3D hungers for memory bandwidth, and only the Core i7-6800K can truly sate it. The Broadwell-E chip roughly doubles the performance of its six-core Ryzen competition. While the Ryzen s can still put up a fair fight with the Core i5-7600K and Core i7-7700K, they simply can’t match Broadwell-E’s quad-channel memory bandwidth. Putting the CPU and graphics card together shows some differences among CPUs, but the results are largely close together except at the extremes of the chart.
