Vermont Mountain Bike Association

Welcome to the home of the greatest mountain biking on the planet. The Trail 429 is Pivot’s most popular model, and one of the OGs in its class; a bike that shaped the short-travel 29er category as we know it today. In recent years, progressions in geometry have made these bikes even more capable on descents and garnered this category the nickname “downcountry” (a combination giant KIDS BIKES of downhill and cross-country). Whistler was one of the first ski resorts to build out biking infrastructure to increase their off-season business, but now they are far from alone. Mammoth in California’s Eastern Sierras, Aspen and Snowmass in Colorado, Timberline Creek in Oregon and Mountain Creek in New Jersey have all become mountain biking destinations.

Total climb about 600 feet from the Big Lonely junction to high point. Crosses gas pipeline twice, Mineral Bottom Road and Hwy313. Near the head of the canyon, the road leaves the canyon bottom and climbs a fairly steep grade.

Mostly for intermediate and advanced intermediate riders, not because of technical difficulty, but for psychological difficulty. The lower section is easier than the upper section. The trails are narrow and built into a steep broken, rubbly sandstone slope. Falling down this slope would be painful. Because of the occasional steep grade and sandy surface on the upper trail, it is aerobically and technically challenging.

Intermediate plus riders; aerobically demanding. From the end of Little Canyon ST to the overlook of Bride Canyon is a 400 ft climb. The ride on roads to the rim has an average grade of 12% with a climb of 957 feet.

You must ride up the Cliff Hanger jeep road about 2 miles to gain access to the start of Ahab (~700 ft climb). You can start at the mid-point of Ahab by turning left after 1.7 miles on the road. The ride is on slickrock, ledges, dirt veneer of the Kayenta Formation and offers grand views of Behind The Rocks and the La Sal Mountains. With all these mountain bike types, there are also different wheel sizes,27.5 inch ,27.5 Plusand29 inch . The larger diameter wheels are easier to roll over obstacles, but the bike becomes less agile, slower to accelerate and a tad heavier. You should pick your wheel size based on your height, riding style, and cost.

They excel on steep descents, bike parks, and anytime you’re going fast. Head angles range from 62 to 66 degrees and reaches are longer to keep your weight farther behind the front wheel. In the past year, we’ve ridden and evaluated more than 100 of the top mountain bikes—everything from budget hardtails to do-it-all trail models to bomber downhill race bikes.

Another reason for mountain biking’s growing appeal is the sheer breadth of places to ride, and types of experiences you can have as a rider. Whether you’re flying down the rock gardens on Skid Marks or tail whipping off wooden ramps on Twilight Zone, Mammoth Bike Park has it all. You’ll find plenty of jumps, berms and drops to feast on around the mountain plus a dedicated Derailed Zone dedicated to expert and pro riders. Our Mission is to enhance recreational & economic opportunities for the Teton region through development of our mountain biking resources. The sweet smell of chainsaw fuel and fresh turned dirt is in the air! We are moving quickly into the spring season as the lower elevation trails begin to melt out rapidly.

To create, enhance and protect great places to ride mountain bikes. Know of a new mountain bike trail not listed here? These are mini-downhill models that are good at climbing.

giant ROAD BIKESs are designed to take you off-road, navigating gravel and other uneven surfaces with relative ease. Advanced riders often head to the trails at Gambrill State Park , the Frederick Watershed , and the trails of the George Washington National Forest for more challenging rides. You would never think of the greater Washington DC and Northern Virginia region as a mountain biking destination, but thanks to a group of dedicated volunteers, the area has become just that. The DC Metro region is full of quality singletrack trails that will satisfy cyclists of all skill levels, from beginners to experienced riders.
