The best thing is to fill the jars nearly full, as minimizing the air will improve the aging. So, press that tobacco into the jars, and put those lids on tight! If you warm the jars before putting on the lids, it will form a slight vacuum, which is also beneficial, both to keeping the lids tight and aging the tobacco. Not long after the Fair Labor Standards Act was passed, the Virginia-Carolina Service Corporation, based in
Richmond, began lobbying for an amendment to the act that would exempt home workers.
In sum, the blend imparts of charming spent persona. Unsealing the package containing this bulk tobacco, one is greeted with a handsome matrix of ready rubbed strands and coarse cut fragments displaying a variegation of warm toned hues. Finely cultured strains of red, orange, golden browns, lace generously about the complementing blackened twists filling a brilliant palate of color. Judging from this assortment, Bag End present a significantly Virginia dominant face with what appears to be a level amount of Turkish/Oriental to Burley following by a modest showing of Latakia.
If you are a true smokeless tobacco fan, let the world know about your love for Northerner. Yes, you should season the inside of a new wineador if it has wood trays and shelves. Use 84% RH for no-mess seasoning and a single Size 320 for every 100 cigars your wineador holds. It is not uncommon to read of someone “losing” a pouch of Borkum Rif or Amphora behind the couch for a decade, and finding it to be just as good (or as bad!) as when new. I have been using them to cellar tobacco for the past few years.
I previously tried the H&H Black House & White Knight blends and thought Latakia would be on my “I don’t like” list, but this was just a sprinkle and I actually didn’t mind it as it was not overwhelming. If I can find more blends like this where it is in the background and not in your face I may give them a try. So naturally I wanted Pipe Tobacco in Cans to try some of the available themed blends out there. So far as of 2021 the only easily obtained commercial versions are from The Country Squire and Just for Him. Ideal for blowing smoke rings with a visiting wizard friend. The strength makes it nice and relaxing, so probably not the best for a morning smoke before a busy work day.
But then the blend wouldn’t be as subtle or understated if that really was the intention. Even at its best, in a wide bowl, I have many other blends to choose from with more complexity, more Latakia, or both. And if Pipe Tobacco in Bags I want a softer Scottish style blend I much prefer Wilke 436. At least in the bag I received it is nearly imperceptible. Opening the bag, what I smelled was tobacco (hay, earthy) with a little spice and some leather.
I would just toss a plastic container if it were me. They are more permeable, or absorb aromas and spores. The Mason/Ball canning jar with a lid that will keep a near-perfect seal for many years is best for long-term storage. The second potential (and often real) problem is that tobacco will absorb any aromas in the air that comes in contact with it.
