Dyson launches suite of new Dyson technology for healthier homes

In the battle with robot vacuums specifically, cordless models tend to be much quicker in their cleaning. Most robot vacuums we test still aren’t great at picking up dirt from carpet, and even with stiff nylon bristles on the brush bar the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is outperformed in this area by a number of iRobot Roombas we’ve tested. The UK company claims the robovac has six times the suction power when stacked against a previous Dyson vacuum cleaner.

But when you are ready to buy, you can then explore CNET’s favorite cordless vacuums and robot vacuums of the year. But perhaps the biggest downside of a cordless vacuum is that you still have to do a bit of work. With even the most advanced stick vac, you’ll still have to perform the physical act of vacuuming. If you’re tired of vacuuming back and forth again and again, then a robot vacuum cleaner is what you should buy instead. Both models are useful and convenient — and they both have unique strengths and weaknesses. That may make it tricky to decide which vacuum cleaner is right for you.

Delivery is Monday to Friday 9am – 6pm local time, not including statutory holidays. If a delivery cannot be completed (for example, if you’re not home), the carrier will leave a notification at your door indicating where you can pick up your order. Cordless vacuums are quick, reliable and work on really any flooring type. Ultimately the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is a good performer and could be worth a look, but be aware that it may take a while to do a deep clean if you’re using it in Auto mode as it’ll need time to recharge when the battery runs out. We’d like a future update to include better management of the battery life in Auto mode.

The Dyson 360 Vis Nav robot vacuum (available 25 May 2023) is a solid performer with a striking design. We found it excellent at dirt pick-up on hard floors and good at picking up pet hair, but if your home is very dirty, the battery in Auto mode may not last long. Like most robot vacs, it isn’t brilliant at cleaning carpet, and at $2399 it’s a huge investment. Of course, Dyson is known for its regular vacuums, which are still a necessity even if you have a robot vacuum — robot vacuums still can’t do stairs. The newest Dyson vacs, the Gen5detect and Gen5outsize, are cordless vacuums with the fifth generation of Dyson’s Hyperdymium motor. This is “smaller, faster, and more powerful than its predecessors,” according to Dyson.

Dyson’s first robot vacuum, the 360 Eye, was a tallish robot vac that brought several new tricks to automated floor cleaning, for a price. Now, the UK company is trying again with the 360 Vis Nav robovac, which just launched in Australia and should come to the US later this year. One of the main downsides of cordless vacuum cleaners is the somewhat inconsistent lifespan of its batteries. A close-up of the Dyson’s ‘side edge actuator’ which takes the place of traditional rotating brushes you see on other robot vacuums. Naturally, the 360 Vis Nav is also compatible with the MyDyson app, which can be used to create and customize zones, schedule cleans, and set routines.

We spread cat hair across the test carpet surface to see how well the vacuum coped. Most of the hair was removed apart from a few lumps and strands, with very little hair left on the brush. While the D-shaped machine means it can get right to the edge of the wall as it travels, in practice there were some areas in our test space that it missed as well as some unvacuumed areas around the table and chairs, so we only rated it OK for this. We decided to abandon the bissell crosswave cordless results from this run, because while it was recharging we inadvertently disrupted the cleaning task when we checked the bin to see how much sand had been collected. After preparing the 360 Vis Nav (which involves charging and discharging the battery a couple of times), we ran it on our hard test surface in the default Auto mode. You won’t find some of the novel features present in other high-end models from brands like iRobot, but this may not be a dealbreaker.

Please note that there are a small number of postal codes, usually in remote rural areas, to which expedited shipping is not available. It’s also worth noting that the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is a slim robot vacuum, fitting under any furniture raised more than 99mm, which is another important aspect when buying any robot vacuum. To achieve this, Dyson increased the motor speed of their previous model, the Dyson 360 Eye, from 78,000 RPM to 110,000 RPM, this increase being responsible for that unparalleled bissell crosswave cordless suction power. Like the original, a camera with a fish-eye lens atop the robovac uses “Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technology” to track its movement in a room by looking for recognizable landmarks and triangulating its location. The new model also promises better low light performance thanks to eight LEDs around the lens that selectively turn on to illuminate landmarks being tracked, which should also help ensure the robovac doesn’t get lost when cleaning underneath furniture.

The Australian site lists a release date of May 25, and it should be no surprise that this is really expensive, with an eye-watering price of $AUD 2,399 or about $1,590.
