Griddles

Blackstone griddles are easier to maintain due to their simple design and fewer moving parts. However, both types of outdoor cooking equipment require regular upkeep to ensure longevity and safe operation. I find it fascinating to compare different types of grills and their features. One comparison that is often made is between Blackstone and gas grills. While both grills have unique features, some similarities are worth highlighting. Another way to deal with severe corrosion is to use an orbital sander and 60-grit sandpaper to lift off the stuck-on rust and grime from the surface of the griddle.

This tabletop griddle by Blackstone fits the bill, measuring only 22.5- by 19- by 9-inches, and weighing only 32 pounds. It’s great to take when camping, enjoying a picnic at the beach, or going tailgating on game day. According to the brand, there’s enough space on the 22-inch cooking surface to put as many as 12 burgers or 16 eggs. That’s plenty enough room to cook larger meals for families or to have a get-together with friends.

You’re aiming to get as thin a layer of oil as possible over the entire surface. If you spread the oil too thick, it will form a gooey mess when you turn up the heat. Two “H” burners are powered with 24,000 BTUs, doling out heat evenly on the cooking surface. Turn on both burners or use just one, as each side is controlled separately with its own igniter, which also allows you to select the level of heat for each of the sides. This means you can time your meal to be ready at the exact same time. Throw on some vegetables on one side at one temperature while cooking a steak on the other side at another temperature.

When it comes to outdoor cooking, the main difference between a Blackstone griddle and a traditional gas or charcoal grill is the cooking surface. Grills have a ridged cooking surface and use the direct heat of the flame for cooking food, resulting in a blackstone flat top grill slightly smokier and healthier meal. On the other hand, Blackstone griddles have a flat stainless steel surface that offers a slightly juicier and fattier piece of meat. Gas grills typically have removable grates and drip pans, making cleaning a breeze.

At 28 inches, it has just as much cooking surface as Blackstone’s higher-end griddles. Like those pricier models, it also boasts two burners and lights with an electric ignition. The original Blackstone griddle featured a 36-inch solid steel griddle top with a built-in grease management system.

The greater the number of BTUs, the better able the grill is to evenly heat the cooking surface and reach the high temperatures necessary for searing food. The rule of thumb for flat-top grills is that the grill black stone griddle should have around 60 BTUs per square inch of cooking surface. How many cooking zones the chef can create depends on the number of burners. For example, a griddle with two burners can create two different zones.

This design makes it easier to lift and roll the grill, while also making it more compact by shortening its overall length. The smoke carries away most of the organic components of the oil, leaving behind the polymers that form the non-stick coating you’re after. Today I will share with you the types of foods that are best cooked on a Blackstone griddle.

All you need for this is canola oil or another cooking oil with a high smoke point. Check out our section above on seasoning your griddle to learn more. Now that you’ve removed the factory coating from your Blackstone griddle, it’s time to season it. High-performance flat top grills for fast, even, edge-to-edge heat. You’ll want to add the vegetables in order based on which ones will require more time for cooking. Use your long spatula to push the chicken to the side of the griddle in an area with lower heat to keep it warm.

You can use it to cook just about anything, and because it has a large cooking surface, it’s perfect for cooking for large groups of people. And unlike a traditional grill, you don’t have to worry about food falling through the grates or getting stuck. Cleaning a Blackstone griddle can be similar to caring for cast-iron cookware rather than pots and pans with a nonstick surface. This will keep buildup from getting in the way of your delicious food and ensure you won’t get any burn marks in the process.

I am an amateur cook trying to make up for years of letting my hard-working wife take care of all of the food prep and cooking…both at home and at the campground. Learning to cook has been incredibly exciting, but overwhelming at the same time. Steam a big bowl of white rice (my favorite is jasmine rice) ahead of time and ladle hibachi chicken and vegetables on top. And don’t forget to make a bowl of yum yum sauce ahead of time, too. The dish comes together so quickly that you’ll want to practice mise en place — the French term for measuring and gathering all the ingredients needed ahead of time.
