In this guide, I will take a look at two of the popular Q-series grills, the Q1200 and the Q2200, and go through the key differences and who they are for. Q 2000 and 2200 are Weber’s large portable gas grills with 280 square inches of cook surface and a single 12,000 BTU stainless steel burner. These portables, originally called Baby Q, were a hit coming out of the gate. Like all Q series grills they have coated cast aluminum housing, porcelain-enameled cast iron cooking grates, electric ignition, removable grease pans and glass re-inforced nylon frames. The Weber Q 320 has a very well thought out design, boasting excellent safety features.
This can save you a lot of time, particularly when you are trying to grill somewhere outside of your home. The Traveler is big enough to cook for a crowd, looks great and doesn’t take up much space when not in use. You can set up or collapse the grill with one hand while you are holding a beer in another.
The grill surface itself also has a lot to do with the effectiveness of the Q 1200. Unlike so many other grills that are outfitted with a simple, stainless steel grate, the range of this barbecue is porcelain-enameled cast iron. While it is likely best known in its skillet form, this material is famous for heat retention and the resulting even distribution across the cook surface.
For extra protection, the electric cable is about six-foot-long, and it has been grounded to prevent fires. Along with all this, the grill also includes weber genesis 2 aluminum liner for maximum heat retention. In fact, some of its weight can actually be forgiven due to how well constructed this gas grill is.
While it doesn’t mean that ribs and similar foods are of the table, it can make it trickier to cook them. After all, grilling on a lower temperature doesn’t have nearly the same effect. The biggest issue here would be with the fact that there is only one burner. Now, given the size of the model this isn’t too surprising, but it does create a small issue when it comes to indirect cooking. A whole chicken or even a small brisket shouldn’t be too much hard work on this grill. Thus, you do have a few more options for what you can cook with the Weber Q2200.

Once the grill cooled, I was able to easily pry off food and build up on the cooking grates. The porcelain coated cast iron grates made this a breeze to do. Q2200 grill also features large folding tables on the side that have been reinforced with glass for extra protection. If this was not enough, the burner provides BTU-per-hour to the LP and can be ignited in an instant with its electronic ignition.
The tank storage system not only locks the propane tank in place so it can’t shift around, but also uses the weight of the tank to counter balance the rest of the grill’s weight. The lighter is charged by a large red button (I love big red buttons) which worked first time every time we tested it. The button is also sturdy and placed cleverly enough not to be pressed accidentally by you leaning on the grill or while using other functions.
Despite this, I wouldn’t say that the grilling space is overly compact. This is because you have enough room for 12 burgers or a few more hot dogs at one time on the cooking grates. They also offer two models with 285 square inches of cooking space and 20,000 BTUs, the X-Cursion and the 285.
