NvidiaWe haven’t had time to play around with the new feature yet, but it sure sounds cool on paper. Don’t be surprised to see the original model’s new pricing settle in around there. The first graph shows the relative performance of the videocard compared to the 10 other common videocards in terms of PassMark G3D Mark. These cards, like the mid-range and high-end Super cards that preceded them, are also designed to improve performance and offer a better price-to-performance ratio than the non-super cards that preceded them. These value charts can’t fully quantify every potential buyer, as for many people raw performance will hold more weight than price. It’s why some gamers buy the RTX 2080 Ti, even though it’s at the bottom of the GPU value charts and only about half way up the system value charts.
And at 1440p half the benchmarks show that either the Super is as quick as the Ti or maybe even faster, with the latest GTX Turing card often delivering around 12% higher frame rates on average. We’re talking about affordable, mainstream graphics cards here, and so the 1080p performance is arguably the most important metric with the Super card’s 1440p chops maybe a secondary consideration. But that higher spec memory does come into play at the higher resolutions, and no matter what, more often than not the Super is tangibly faster than the straight GTX 1660 version.
The new GeForce drivers and the new GeForce gtx 1080 8gb graphics cards should both be available Tuesday. Enabling NULL with V-Sync off improves latency but sacrifices visual fidelity—you’re subjected to screen tearing due to the way the technology works. Conversely, enabling V-Sync to reduce tearing without G-Sync active greatly increases latency. Now, however, you can enable NULL, V-Sync, and G-Sync simultaneously to eliminate screen tearing and get latency results on a par with native game performance with all those technologies turned off.
As the new cards are a mid-generation kicker of a mainstream card, there aren’t any reference cards to speak of here. Instead, this is a pure virtual launch, with all of the cards on the market being partner designs. As time goes on, we will build a new database of results with results generated from this test system. For now, we include GPUs that offer similar performance to the card under review. In this case we have two Nvidia cards, a Gigabyte GTX 1650 and an EVGA GTX 1660 Ti.
Ultimately the GTX 1660 is exactly what it needs to be – much quicker than the GTX GB, a match for the RX 590 and a huge step up from the GTX GB, which unless you’re picking it up for less than $160/£150, really isn’t worth it now. Far Cry 5 was tiny bit slower on the Scan PC than on my own test system, but only by a couple of frames per second, with the Pc maintaining a minimum frame rate of at least 67fps, with clear scope for gaming at higher resolutions. Stepping up to 1440p and the GTX 1660 Ti extended its lead over the cheaper Turing card and only the RTX 2060 managed to reach over 60fps consistently.
The more complex a scene the more needs to be stored in the memory of your graphics card, and the faster that memory is the quicker it can be pulled out and flashed up on your gaming monitor.
