Gigabyte’s Overclocked Version Of The Kick
Once again, there’s a huge near 30% step up from the GTX GB, meaning that you’d probably consider the new card a worthwhile upgrade. Individual results will vary from that a bit, but it’s a reasonable baseline estimate. There gtx 1080 8gb will likely be factory overclocked models that will run about 5 percent faster on the core clock, and the better models will hit slightly higher speeds, but I wouldn’t recommend spending too much extra for such a card.
The Nvidia GeForce gtx 1090 Super is available today, starting at $229 (about £180, AU$330). This puts the GTX 1660 Super above the original GTX 1660 by just $10 (about £8, AU$15). But, with the faster GDDR6 memory, you’re getting a significant boost in performance for that slight price increase.
GeForce GTX SUPER Series graphics cards are powered by the NVIDIA Turing GPU architecture. Get 1.4X power efficiency over the previous generation for a faster, cooler, and quieter gaming experience. The gtx 1080 8gb Ti and GTX 1660 are roughly similar in terms of clock speeds – in fact the latter offers higher base and boost frequencies. However, the more expensive card offers more Cuda cores as well as faster GDDR6 as opposed to GDDR5 memory, meaning the GTX 1660 trails in memory bandwidth at 192.1GB/sec compared to 288.1GB/sec. With a promised 15% performance boost over the GTX GB and up to 30% over the similarly-priced 3GB model of that card, the GTX 1660 still has what it takes to be an excellent 1080p HD gaming card, on paper at least.
This means that they’re hitting the ground running, using their existing card designs for the GTX 1660 Super. At this point I haven’t seen any new designs specifically for the Super card, and I’m not expecting any either. So these cards will look and perform similarly to the GTX 1660 cards already on the market. These days, we don’t recommend springing for the factory overclocked versions.
Because Turing doubles up on schedulers, it only needs to issue an instruction to the CUDA cores every other clock cycle to keep them full. In between, it’s free to issue a different instruction to any other unit, including the INT32 cores. The GeForce GTX 1660 continues the downward price and performance trend with Nvidia’s Turing architecture, cutting additional high-end features to bring a generational improvement to the mainstream market. The new card is likely to be released as GTX 1060 series will fully disappear from the market, so probably not long from now.
Finishing up the gaming benchmarks we have Middle-earth Shadow of War and here the 1660 Super was 19% faster than the base model and just 3% slower than the Ti version, so again another excellent result. Resident Evil 2 shows almost no performance uplift for the 1660 Super over the standard 1660, just a ~2% increase for the average frame rate. Just in time for the holiday shopping season, we have not one but two new Super graphics cards from Nvidia. The cooler on the card features a pair of axial fans, with some subtle design tweaks to improve performance.
