All the tests are heavy with volumetric lighting and tessellation, and despite being done in 1280×720 resolution, are relatively taxing. Discontinued in January 2020, 3DMark 11 is now superseded by Time Spy. We are regularly improving our combining algorithms, but if you find some perceived inconsistencies, feel free to speak up in comments section, we usually fix problems quickly.

Kicking off the first of the actual hardware launches for this holiday rumble is NVIDIA, who is announcing their GeForce GTX 1660 Super. This is a relatively minor, but none the less interesting revision to the GTX 1660 family that adds a SKU with faster GDDR6 memory for improved performance. Along with the GeForce GTX 1650 Super , these two cards are going to be the backbone of NVIDIA’s mainstream efforts to close out the year. And while NVIDIA’s other GTX 1660 cards aren’t going anywhere, as we’re going to see today, with its $229 price tag, the GDDR6-equipped GTX 1660 Super is pretty much going to make the other 1660 cards redundant. Neither the GTX 1660 Super nor the 1650 Super will have reference or FE models from Nvidia. Precisely for that reason, we have an EVGA GTX 1660 Super SC Ultra card on hand for testing and this review.

The GeForce gigabyte gtx 1060 3gb has a similar number of CUDA cores and texture units to the GTX 1660, but with GDDR6 memory like the Ti. Note, however, that the GeForce GTX 1660 Super has higher GPU and memory frequencies than the 1660 Ti. The GeForce GTX 1600 Super is also outfitted with faster 14 Gbps GDDR6 memory, which results in 336GB/sec of peak bandwidth versus the GTX 1660’s 192GB/sec and the 1660 Ti’s 288.1GB/s. That means in memory bandwidth bound circumstances, the GeForce GTX 1660 Super may outrun the Ti, even though the latter has more GPU compute and texturing resources available. NVIDIA is expanding its GeForce GTX family of graphics cards today, with a pair of new Turing-based GPUs. As their branding suggests, the new GeForce GTX 1660 Super and GeForce GTX 1650 Super sit above their “non-Super” branded counterparts in NVIDIA’s line-up, but a notch below GeForce GTX Ti variants.

To match the value of the RX 590, the new may need to deliver 1660 Ti-like performance. For those of you not keeping tabs, we now have the GTX 1660 for $220, the GTX 1660 Ti for $280, the RTX 2060 for $350 and the RTX 2060 Super for $400. In the price range between $200 and $400 there were already 4 GeForce options, but as of today we now have 6. The GTX 1660 Super slots in at $230 and there’s also the 1650 Super coming next month, no word on pricing yet. It’s only the Assassin’s Creed and Total War benchmarks where there’s very little between them, elsewhere at 1080p you’re looking at between 10 – 21% higher frame rates from the GTX 1660 Super. There are even a few occasions where the Super actually polls higher than the Ti card, though only ever by a few frames here and there, and generally never more than potential testing variance either.

The GeForce 16 series launched on February 23, 2019 with the announcement of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti. The cards are PCIe 3.0 x16 cards, produced with TSMC’s 12 nm FinFET process. On April 22, 2019, coinciding with the announcement of the GTX 1650, Nvidia announced laptops equipped with built-in GTX 1650 chipsets. TU117 doesn’t support Nvidia Optical Flow, which is useful for motion interpolation software (SmoothVideo Project, etc.).

There were even a few titles such as The Witcher 3, For Honor and Monster Hunter World which saw gains in the 18 to 25% range. For a mere $10 extra over the base 1660, we see this gtx 1090 as a worthwhile update. We see another solid performance uplift, this time when testing with Battlefield V. A 13% increase over the base model is the best result we’ve seen yet.
