After 2 years of what I would call extreme use (multiple sessions fully draining a flexvolt 2/6 ah battery). I’m sold on the concept of a multi-tool in general, but this DeWalt came through with everything I wanted, and more. You will not be disappointed if you add this gem to your DIY tool arsenal. No complaints on the sanding, I slipped a piece of 120 grit on the hook-and-loop pa and went to town. I rounded the edges slightly, cleaned up my puttied nail holes, and gave the whole piece a once over, including the inner corners.

The QUICK-CHANGE™ Accessory System isn’t really that new as we’ve seen the same system used on the Porter-Cable line. In fact, it was our favorite when we reviewed the Porter-Cable Multi-Tool last year. I really like this system because I can easily squeeze the clamp with one hand while I insert a blade with the other hand.

It also has a hard carrying case to keep everything organized. If there’s a lesson here, it’s that you should use your oscillating tool at the lowest speed possible to complete the job to avoid burning your workpiece or destroying your blades. When it comes to battery-powered oscillating tools, voltage determines power output. Tools that use 18 or 20 volt batteries are more than sufficient. When oscillating tools first hit the market, they were corded.

I just want to let people know that this is not a variable speed tool. You may be able to control the speed with some magical power but I have now such thing at my disposal so i consider this a two speed tool, off and on. I sort of think the tool landed in the hands of the marketing team at DeWalt and they said “hey look, when you pull the trigger a little it goes slower! ” It’s a fact that it’s speed changes depending on how much you pull the trigger but there is no way to control it unless you’re just sitting at a table somewhere holding it.

Unlike many other power tools that work by spinning blades or moving them in a back-and-forth motion, oscillating tools oscillate—that means a side-to-side motion at a very high rate of speed. To get the most usable life out of your blades and minimize the noise and vibrations you’ll have to deal with, regulate your speed. Set the oscillating tool at a low setting, and work your way up until the blade is cutting well without burning the material or dulling the blade. The DCS356D1 has a built-in LED light that helps when working in dark cabinets or corners of poorly lit rooms. It comes with a carrying bag and a 28-piece accessory kit that includes several blades, a sanding block and paper, an accessory box, and a rolling depth gauge. For corded oscillating tools, the tool gets its voltage from the outlet, but there are other factors.

It also can zip through softwood quickly and easily at a high speed. Thought the tool was good for used in those hard to reach areas to cut wood & metal. Will dewalt Hand tools continue to replace my Dewalts with better quality tools going forward. I bought this as I wasn’t able to find the blades for the Master Mechanic I have.

It also comes with a universal accessory adapter, which will allow you to secure most blades and attachments to this tool. PORTER-CABLE’s signature tool-free blade change system is a user favorite. It allows for quick changes to effortlessly switch from sanding to cutting or vice versa without requiring other tools to attach accessories or awkward bolts to fumble with. The oscillating tool is compatible with other accessories you may have on hand and can fit blades from most manufacturers easily. DEWALT certainly is late to the game with their first oscillating tool, however they certainly have brought their “A” game with the DWE315K. From the very first look at this new multi-tool you get the impression that it was built for heavy duty use in the field.

This handy kit includes 27 different blades and attachments for just about any oscillating tool function, including sanding, cutting, and scraping. They fit just about all major brands of oscillating tools, so whether you are starting from scratch, want to increase your tool selection, or just like having extras on hand, you’ll be covered. If a light-duty oscillating tool is all you need for your projects, the BD200MTB from BLACK+DECKER might work for you.
