I’m not even sure that I would have, except that I still own a portable bbq grill. I feel like I’d be doing a disservice if I didn’t give you the most accurate review possible. Very little has changed since I reviewed two Weber Q grills over seven years ago. A slight model name change and some cosmetic updates are the only differences between the old and new grills. The Q line of grills still have all of the same features, the same specifications and most importantly, they all operate the same and produce the same results.

If your Weber grill is beginning to show its age, replacement parts can breathe new life into it at only a fraction of the cost of a new grill. You can call the Q2200 portable if you want but there are no lid latches on the grill, it is a pain to carry and the optional folding cart is incredibly flimsy. Both grills are solidly built but with very different materials. The Traveler is sleeker than the Q series with a lower profile lid.

An easy-to-read, integrated thermometer helps you accurately track temperature, and fold-out side tables offer plenty of space for your BBQ tools. While its weight and lack of latching lid make it less than ideal for carrying into remote picnic sites, the weber q 1200 is the ideal companion for road tripping and car-camping. Many portable grills function to cook food but lack the finesse needed for grilling more than hot dogs and burgers. This one brings power and control to this category better than the competition. We purchased the Q1200 to carry along on camping trips. It’s compact, rugged design stores easily when traveling.

A final note to all coastal dwellers or poolside grillers, wash and rinse down the exterior surfaces regularly to keep your warranty valid. I’m embarrassed at how long it’s taken me to publish this review, but here I am, four years after the Weber Q redesign, dragging my feet to compile all of my notes. If you like to cook with really high temperatures—I’m talking over 500 degrees—you might have trouble getting there with only one burner. We purchased the Weber Q 2200 so our review could put it to the test in her kitchen. The Weber Q 2200 Gas Grill makes it easy and convenient to grill on the go, but it’s spacious enough for everyday home use, as well.
