I personally prefer it to the click-on trimmer attachments of the more expensive Philips razors. The blades are called ComfortCut by Philips and they’re supposed to be gentle on the skin — we’ll see how that pans out in the performance section later on. A new, high-end manual razor is meant to duplicate the old school, Braun Series 5 hot-towel-shave experience. Braun offers a Series 8 shaver at select retailers, and that version sells for less than a Series 7 usually does. The S9000 Prestige’s digital battery indicator is more precise than the temperature-gauge-like bar on other models we’ve considered, but both are fine in day-to-day use.
Further upping the Luxe Quotient, Philips 9000 Series Prestige also comes with a wireless Qi charging pad, which you can also juice your phone and other compatible gadgets on. Battery life is solid – I get several weeks worth of shaves out of every charge. Another big thing in the favour of the Prestige is that it looks way better than the Braun Series 9 – Braun Series 5 and, come to that, all Philips’ own other shavers. When you pick it up, you might be a bit disappointed that it is actually plastic and not the steel that it looks like. However, the grip is really comfortable and ergonomic, and there’s no denying it looks great. This is an unusual situation where the product at #1 is slightly less good than the one at #2.
Most powerful electric razors may not be great for beginning shavers or people with breakouts, but this one is specifically designed for both of those groups . The gentle rotary shaver heads are outfitted with LED lights to help kill acne bacteria and improve skin while the shaver goes to work. It’s not the most powerful on this list, which means it may not be ideal for experienced shavers or people with thick beards, but is ideally suited for anyone with thinner beards. The sleek, simple design is easy to pick up and use with a low learning curve and it’s fully waterproof which makes cleaning a breeze.
No matter what I did, and no matter what product I tried, I couldn’t seem to get rid of them. We tried Philips Norelco’s lower-end rotary models but determined that the brand’s 9000 series performed better, and it was so closely priced that it was a better buy for most people. In our experience, the 4000-series razor didn’t shave closely enough to be worth their bargain prices. However, one member of our test panel has been using a 4000-series model for years, and they still love it, even after trying much more expensive models. The Remington offers generally good performance, but you’ll likely find the shaving experience to be buzzier and potentially more irritating if you don’t maintain a very light touch. Simply give it a sacred space in your grooming cabinet, and see how it proves to be an investment that bears charming returns in the long run. If the electric shavers have any advanced features, such as an additional trimmer or quick charging, we’ll try these out to test if they work and if they’re worth the extra money they no doubt command. We’ll usually spend a week or longer testing new electric shavers, and the review process is fairly straightforward – we use them to shave our faces. Now electric shaving does get used to as you are essentially dragging dry metal over a dry face. I personally use a pre-shave but because this shaver was waterproof I jumped in the shower to Philips Norelco Shaver test it out. It is also worth mentioning that the trimmer head will not fit in the travel case. If you want to shave while on holiday, you will have to pack the trimmer head separately.
