Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer Review

A recipe book is not included, but the Instant Pot website does have How-To Videos and as well as a good cooking time table and answers questions. There isn’t much information on using the dehydrate feature, nor many recipes yet on the Instant Pot app or website but I expect they’re working on getting more recipes. The Vortex Plus XL is an accurate air fryer, varying within 5 to 10 degrees of the desired temperature. Our taste judges pay special attention to the texture, evenness, and cook times of various food items during our cooking test.

It offers a more compact option to the flagship moosoo air fryer air fryer or the more enhanced Instant Vortex Plus air fryer by trimming back 20% of the bulk. The first test of a good air fryer is its ability to make homemade fries. To test this we cut and soaked some potatoes to remove the starchiness, and then dried and tossed them in oil and seasoning. With this air fryer you get a removable air fryer insert grid which can be lifted and removed using a hook in the center of the grid. The drawer is not quite square, and we found it a little confusing to fit this inside the air fryer on the first use.

And if you’re looking for recipe inspiration, you’ll need your smartphone closeby. It features a traditional basket with a handle, an attachable cooking tray, and a sleek touch-screen interface. From there, you can select functions beyond air frying—like roast, bake, dehydrate, reheat, and broil. Like other Instant Vortex models, you won’t require much oil when cooking in the Slim air fryer. A touch does help potato skins to crisp up better, however. Its touch controls are housed on the angular edge, where the top and front of the unit meet.

This is one of the easiest and most delicious chicken dishes I have ever made. Millie put this air fryer to the test for a number of weeks to make fries, bacon, and roasted vegetables. She will keep this review updated with any thoughts on how it compares to other models on the market.

While it’s very similar to the 4-in-1 air fryer, the standout feature in the Vortex Plus is the dehydrator. If you’re looking for a reliable air fryer that can also produce perfectly dried fruits and veggies, the Vortex Plus is for you. Just like the 4-in-1, the Vortex Plus has a roomy, 6-quart basket with a nonstick coating for easy cleanup. Equipped with pre-programmed settings and a temperature-controlling dial, the interface is also super user-friendly. The only downside to this model is the broiler function, which is pre-set to 400 degrees F and for two minutes and didn’t perform well for us in testing. Although the basket has a 6-quart capacity, you can’t cook that quantity of food at once.

Even trimmed down and trussed up, my small chicken still dragged the bottom of the foil-lined tray on each rotation. I cooked it at 380 for 1 hour, and it came out done, but pretty average with less than crispy skin. I’d recommend lower and slower if you’re going to cook a full chicken in the Vortex Plus, or try experimenting with a smaller bird like a guinea hen if you can find one at your local butcher. The maker of the Instant Pot expands its empire with an air fryer that can do more than just serve up mozzarella sticks.

On the Instant Vortex Plus, you can just press the light button and look through the window. It combines the visibility of a toaster oven with the efficiency of a pod air fryer. We test the cook time according to each air fryer’s manual instructions. Onion rings and chicken breasts cook within the suggested time. Donuts take a few extra minutes but remain doughy regardless, and our potato products took 15 to 20 minutes but never fully crisp up. The Instant Vortex 6-quart Air Fryer impressed us with its great air frying results on brussel sprouts and, in particular, frozen French fries.

I was able to find just one chicken under 5 pounds at my local grocery, and it was labeled 4.2 pounds (still technically too large for the weight limit). I removed the packaging, giblets and some extra fat, and the chicken’s final weight was 3.8 pounds. Small enough for the Vortex Plus, but not large enough to leave any leftovers instant vortex for a family of four. It is the most versatile, probably most famous Asian sauce in the world. This humble vegetable is so tender with crispy edges and doused in an amazing sesame sauce. These uniquely delicious and crispy rice paper dumplings are so much more than your traditional dumplings or ordinary spring rolls.

There are some reviews that the coating on the accessories is flaked off from the factory. It is made by the makers of the Instant Pot (an electric pressure cooker), but it is not a pressure cooker. I purchased the Instant Pot vortex with my own money, and all of these opinions are my own. The Instant Vortex Plus Air Fryer with ClearCook, Instant Vortex 6 Quart Air Fryer, and the Instant Pot Vortex 10 Qt Oven Air Fryer are great products. There are a handful of Instant Vortex Air Fryer Oven recipes on the Instant Pot website.
