We are consistently impressed by this bag’s ability to perform adequately against a long list of competitors, despite its simple design and cheaper price tag. When it comes to warmth, this bag can hold its own against bags that cost far more. It’s ideal for families looking for first-time bags, price-conscious buyers, or just about anyone looking to save a buck. This sleeping bag has a unique zipper system that allows for various ways of ventilation, and you also have an integrated sheet. Here you have a unique construction which is indicated in the name.
Both the Galactic and the MegaSleep can be placed in a compression stuff sack and reduced even smaller. The North Face Dolomite One comes in several packed sizes, depending on the layering system you choose. Compared to others we tested, the entire 3-in-1 system packs up relatively small. If only the top 50-degree quilt is attached, this bag’s packed size is dramatically reduced. Synthetic sleeping bags are a dime a dozen in 2023, but Coleman continues to stand out for their strong focus on value.
The sleeping pads in the list are ordered by weight from heavier to lighter. We also found the No-Snag patented zipper plow does an excellent job at preventing snags. We found that the manufacturer’s Fiberlock Construction really did prevent insulation from shifting and moving after the bag had been extensively used. We feel it would be great for kids or teens, both of which tend to be hard on shoes, clothes, cars, and just about everything else.
As we touched on above, temperature ratings tend to be fairly generous and often require adding a sizable buffer to ensure you’ll stay warm throughout the night. For those who run cold or simply want to bring their bag into lower temperatures, adding a sleeping bag liner can help keep you cozy without breaking the bank. Liners are made of soft materials like fleece, wool, polyester, or silk and typically add around 5 to 15 degrees to the warmth rating of your bag. They also serve as a barrier between you and your bag’s interior, which can help boost lifespan (you can wash the liner after use rather than getting your bag dirty). Liners typically cost between $30 and $60, and a couple of our favorite options are Sea to Summit’s Thermolite Reactor for mummy bags and their Silk-Cotton Blend Liner for rectangular models. To be clear, liners are totally optional and not everyone needs one, but they do offer added warmth and comfort and help keep your bag in good shape.
This bag is built in two versions with the temperature ratings of 30 F (-1 C) and 40 F (4 C). So this is a reliable rectangular synthetic 3-season car camping bag. The bag is also long and wide, the dimensions are 81 x 39 inches (206 x 99 cm).
Mummy-style sleeping bags taper towards the legs, cutting down on bulk and weight while boosting warmth. The first thing you need to consider when choosing a sleeping coleman bbq bag is its temperature rating. For your safety and comfort, always use a sleeping bag rated to the coldest temperature you intend to encounter on the trip.
Each piece of the Polara is a separate and unique layer that can be added, removed, or interchanged, allowing it to be multiple bags in one. This layering system provides options, allowing campers to customize to their warmth needs in different climates, temperatures, and seasons. It packs up much smaller and lighter than many of the sturdier bags in our review. It’s warm, has lots of features and options, and, importantly, it’s reasonably priced. Other advantageous features are useful loops, snaps, zippers, pockets, drawstrings, and a detachable fleece liner. The Polara is a combination of your favorite on-the-couch movie blanket and a hardcore, cold-weather camping bag.
We don’t suggest the Brazos for colder weather, however, for normal late Spring and Summer camping, this bag will hold its own when it comes to keeping you warm… as long as you can fit in it. Synthetic bags are much bulkier and so not recommended for backpacking. The bag is with an offset quilt construction, and the zipper is with what they call the ZipPlow zipper design.
Many coleman sleeping bags include a five-year limited warranty to ensure that the product will be free from defects in material and workmanship. Additionally, we determined whether each bag could legitimately fit on or in a backpack and whether its weight was acceptable to carry. In a pinch, could one double as a backcountry bag on a multiple-day backpacking trip? Although this feature isn’t a necessity for most car campers, it’s still a nice feature. Testing determined that the Teton Sports Celsius XXL and Coleman All-Weather Multi-Layer required a bit of elbow grease to stuff them back into their sacks. Its interior is not as comfortable as its rivals, tending to grab onto a tossing and turning sleeper, ending up a bit twisted in the middle of the night.
