A Look at the Dyson 360 Eye Robot Vacuum

Our hard floor test involves scattering sand around an L-shaped vinyl surface to see how well the robot picks up dirt on the floor and around walls and corners. For instance, the lens doesn’t double as a home security camera (like some other brands’ vacs), but this could be preferable for some, considering recent privacy concerns regarding how such sensitive data is used and kept by robot vacuum manufacturers. Three years is a long time in consumer tech and the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is evidently a big step up from the 360 Heurist.

Robot vacuums typically have rotating corner brushes under them to sweep up dust and debris from corners and along walls. The 360 Vis Nav instead has a small, red ‘side edge actuator’ which pops out of the unit dyson robot vacuum when it goes along a wall’s edge, redirecting suction to the side. Ultimately, cleaning the floor took 28 minutes of actual cleaning time, but 3 hours and 32 minutes if you include all the battery charging.

Please note that there are a small number of postal codes, usually in remote rural areas, to which expedited shipping is not available. It’s also worth noting that the Dyson 360 Vis Nav is a slim robot vacuum, fitting under any furniture raised more than 99mm, which is another important aspect when buying any robot vacuum. To achieve this, Dyson increased the motor speed of their previous model, the Dyson 360 Eye, from 78,000 RPM to 110,000 RPM, this increase being responsible for that unparalleled suction power. Like the original, a camera with a fish-eye lens atop the robovac uses “Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) technology” to track its movement in a room by looking for recognizable landmarks and triangulating its location. The new model also promises better low light performance thanks to eight LEDs around the lens that selectively turn on to illuminate landmarks being tracked, which should also help ensure the robovac doesn’t get lost when cleaning underneath furniture.

An attachment to the Dyson V15s Detect Submarine and Dyson V12s Detect Slim Submarine vacuums, the roller head contains a small, 300ml clean water tank and a separate waste water tank with a motorized microfiber roller for scrubbing. Both models will also ship with standard vacuum cleaner heads, however, Dyson says the submarine attachment won’t work on existing vacuums. Depending on house or room size, you can usually be done cleaning with a stick vac in an hour, while robot vacuums will certainly take more time. But choosing from thousands of options can be overwhelming to say the least.

There were only some areas around the chairs and table which were left unvacuumed. During this time the robot seemed to run at maximum power most of the time, and with dyson robot vacuum a high pitch (we measured the volume at 65dBA, a bit louder than a regular conversation). The noise softens when it goes over areas that have already been cleaned.
