If your bike has large, skinny tires, you’ll have a quick ride but your tires won’t do well in the rain. If you live in an area with lots of precipitation, then you may need something with a better grip. If your commute takes you over train or streetcar tracks, skinny tires are more likely to get stuck in the grooves.
In Salt Lake City, we have an awesome organization called the Bicycle Collective. To be honest, some of the bikes are cheap big box store bikes, but others are really decent bikes for the big bike manufacturers (Trek, Specialized, etc). BMX Bikes are amazing for the dirt trails and the ones from Huffy are lightweight and resilient. Their performance is very nice and the best thing of all, they are cheap.
If you want a bike to ride occasionally, have fun on the weekends, or do short commutes, a Huffy cruiser bike is a decent choice. So if you want your kid to fall in love with cycling at an early age, a Disney- or Marvel-themed huffy bicycles seems like the recipe for success. Another thing to keep in mind is the type of riding you’ll be doing. If you’re planning on doing a lot of off-road riding, you’ll need a different bike than someone who wants to stick to paved trails. Both brands have been around for a long time, and both have a good reputation.
Hand brakes on a child’s bike are always preferred over coaster brakes (back-pedal brakes). Unfortunately, the vast majority of kids bikes on the market come with coaster brakes. They are very cheap and don’t add a lot of money to the production costs of the bike. Don’t get us wrong, we 100% support local bike shops and believe they are essential to communities.
Depending on which shipping method you use, your location, and the availability of products, Huffy bikes typically take 1-5 business days to ship. Keep in mind that Huffy ships to the US addresses only and that the shipping fees are calculated based on weight, dimension, and destination of items. Huffy bikes typically come fully assembled and ready to ride if bought in a retail shop. However, the assembly can be sloppy because it’s usually not done by certified bike mechanics.

This splay in their pedaling greatly decreases the efficiency of each pedal stroke. A major factor in creating an ample-sized cockpit is the bike’s wheelbase (the distance between the wheels’ axles). With kids bikes, a smaller wheelbase almost always means a smaller cockpit. Both brands offer a wide range of bike types, so choosing the right one will depend on your individual needs and preferences. I know a top-end kids bike isn’t a financial priority (or a financial possiblilty) for everyone. That said, if you do have the ability to raise your budget, it makes sense to do it. Like many things in huffy mountain bike life, spending a bit more on a kids bike equates to a much nicer product. Not only does a nicer bike create a more enjoyable product for your child it buys you a bike that will last longer and have a higher resale value when your kiddo is done with it. In comparison, I weigh 125 pounds and ride a bike that weighs 25 pounds.
Buying a high-quality kids bike second-hand is about the best decision you can make. A really good kids bike will last through multiple children, and depending on the area you live in might not be that hard to find. The key is to know which bike brands you should be looking for before you start your search. One of my friends found a Cleary Gecko for $100 on Craigslist, and turned around and sold it a year and a half later for $100.
