18″ Mongoose Burst Kids Bicycle Blue & Orange

Having a wider gear range makes for a versatile bike that can conquer the terrain. If you were wanting to replace the rigid fork with a suspension fork, then you would probably be hard pressed to find a fat fork that would fit. Making sure your kid is kitted out properly doesn’t mean just getting the right bike, but making sure they have the requisite safety equipment to minimize the dangers. I have compiled a great list of the best kids’ full-faced helmets, which you can find here.

The Argus’ drive train uses a 2×8 system with a Microshift derailleur in the front and a Shimano Tourney in the rear. Most mountain bike steerer tubes are designed for tapered headtubes. If the diameter is 44mm then Cane Creek does make a headset to adapt a tapered fork to the headtube. One other negative worth noting was one reviewer who loved the quality of the bike but had replaced the seat as they felt it was of poorer quality. Loads of positive reviews for the Mongoose Micro BMX, one reviewer bought 3 bikes for the family and simply loves them. Another was delighted how light, smooth, and fast the bike was. One super delighted (adult) reviewer was delighted that the bike was still suitable for them and went on to say it would last for decades.

Also, look for bikes with adjustable seats to fit your child’s leg length. The bike must fit your child’s current size in order for it to be safe and comfortable to ride. Despite being made from durable and sturdy, the bike is light, which makes it easy to load and store. And as an added bonus, kids can use the included sticker pack to make their ride standout from the rest. Learning to ride a “big kid” bike is one of the great rites of passage during childhood. Bikes bring a newfound sense of freedom for kids, helping them cover more distance in less time.

This bike will outlast my son’s use because of it’s strength and componentry. He did say that he noticed a difference in the handling with the big tires and it felt kind of like his Kawasaki KLX 110. The drive train is setup for either snow or sand riding and my son mongoose fat tire bike seemed to ride comfortably. It could be swapped for a shorter stem to add some downhill stability. Moreover, the fat tires kind of drag in the dirt, a shorter stem could slow down the steering too much, so maybe we will try it out and test for the long-term review.
