The Char-Broil Performance Series 2-Burner Gas Grill is another option that didn’t quite make the cut for our top picks, but it’s still worth mentioning. This grill is one of the more compact options we tested, with just two burners and 300 square inches of primary cooking space. It’s lightweight and mounted on four caster wheels, and while it was extremely easy to put together, we found it was a bit wobbly during operation.
The really important part is that the entire heat-delivery system—the firebox, burners, and burner hoods—has a much greater effect on the overall results of your food. And all those elements are of the same great quality we’ve consistently seen on Weber grills. This kettle grill has a 22-inch diameter, and can hold up to 13 burgers at a time on its 363 square inches of cooking space. The lid and bowl of the grill are porcelain-enameled for superior heat retention, weber portable grill and the lid has a built-in thermometer and aluminum dampers. The Napoleon Prestige 500 was one of the most expensive gas grills we tested, and while it has an incredibly sleek design, its performance wasn’t good enough to earn it a top spot on our rankings. This grill has 500 square inches of cooking space over four main burners, and it also has a unique “Infrared Sizzle Zone” side burner that gets extra hot, allowing you to char meat quickly.
The Weber Genesis E-325s puts out more heat per square inch than our pick, and the main grate has a 20% larger cooking area. Weber also redesigned its expandable upper warming rack, with bars that run front to back (rather than side to side), so it’s easier to slide a spatula under the food. Instead of porcelainized cast-iron cooking grates, the Genesis E-325s has a grilling surface made of thick stainless steel rods (these won’t make a huge difference in your grilling results).
Like our top pick, the Genesis E-325s has a cast-aluminum firebox and an enameled steel lid and frame. But unlike the Spirit II E-310, the Genesis sits on a closed cart (equipped with double doors) that glides on four casters for easier mobility. You can’t go wrong with s, which are known to be easy to use and reliable, and after testing several different models, the Spirit II E-310 was our favorite. This popular gas grill is available in both propane and natural gas models, and it features 529 square inches of cooking space over three burners.
More-recent models have the same bones as their predecessors, with minor tweaks like redesigned cabinets, handles, and control panels. It’s easy to control the flames underneath the stainless-steel cooking grates, and if you like to have your accessories on weber portable grill hand, there’s room to store them. This grill is a real crowd-pleaser, and you can cook up to 28 burger patties at once. But as one grill master pointed out, the ability to have such a large work area makes it easier to cook up a variety of tasty dishes.
For our 2022 update, we relied mostly on research and reporting, as well as our rigorous testing from years prior. We combed big-box home-improvement stores—including Home Depot and Lowe’s—and Big Apple BBQ in New York to view anything new. And we again chatted with Joe Salvaggio at Big Apple BBQ to get his expert opinion of the gas grills available for 2022. Overall, we found that the core function and design of grills we’ve covered in the $400 to $900 price range hasn’t changed.
On the Napoleon grill, meanwhile, some of the front burgers were nearly raw in the center, while the rear burgers were well-done. If you’re a self-proclaimed grill king, you need the crown jewel of gas grills—like the Summit S-470 from Weber. This stunner of a gas grill gleams in stainless steel or looks elegant in black porcelain.
The sounds, smells and taste of cooking with a barbecue speaks to us of our long history of preparing hot food in the wild. At Weber, we are passionate about creating bbqs that embody this experience, and can roast, sear, grill and smoke to perfection. There is nothing close to the taste of freshly cooked food, served piping hot from a Weber bbq. You can just brush the grates down with a grill brush if they have any debris on them. Additionally, oiling the grates can result in them becoming sticky once the oil has heated beyond its smoking point, which will inevitably happen. If you’re experiencing issues with your food sticking to your Weber grill, oil the food, not the grill grates.
